Roland.....................an 18 mile race is not the event to get people into running with 4 weeks to go.....that would be most irresponsible if you think the organisers are trying to get people to go from nothing to running 18 miles in 4 weeks...........
this is a fun fundriser which is great for walkers..............but sdvertising it as a great training run for the spring marathons is irresponsible as it is not infact that at all.......
maybe next time you should try and advertise it for what it is and you might get more interested parties........make it a fun run/ walk.....buit don't try tell us its a race
Don't even make it a fun run. Just make it a walk. It will be safer for participants and non-participants alike and you will probably get more entrants. FFS how many more charity events have to involve running?
if you don't want to put off a load of people who want to get more into the sport, by taking part in events like this, then might be worth thinking a bit more about your comments!
Hope to see some of you there
An eighteen mile run is not really ideal for "people who want to get more into the sport", I think?
I'd recommend five and ten kilometre races to people who are new to running.
I'm not sure this event should be advertised on here at all. It seems like something got hastily cobbled together last time and is just being scaled up with no thought to what that might mean for anybody's safety.
8in8 - what happens if one of your runners or walkers is taken ill or gets injured? Do you have marshals on the course? St. John's Ambulance personnel? It's 30K - a distance no runner, walker or organiser should take lightly.
You are taking a lot of risks with this event IMO. It's irresponsible.
So I take a tumble down the stairs at the foot tunnel and break my neck / leg / etc, there will be marshals medics etc ? And of course your organisers liability insurance will cover my medical bills etc
It's OK, Sent a quick note to Royal Borough of Greenwich To confirm the organisers liability cover....
... Will see what they say
Good luck with that! I think they're still seething at the contractors who made a Royal fcuk up of the renovations of the foot tunnel leading up to the Olympics. All they seem to have managed is to put a glass door on the lift, slowed the lift down and installed a really moody woman's automated voice saying "Doors closing" at regular intervals.

if its a race I can't find the finishing times of anyone let alone the winners last year

Good point, Dave.
I had a look at the website, it is very light on detail
The Event Detail tab give you nothing but an advert for the bar that's hosting the party.
The OP's gone very quiet!

Yeah I wouldn;t like to meet "her" on a dark night !!
Be interested to see if you get a reply Dave.
I notice that even tho it lists affiliated and non affiliated entry fees It's not listed on UKA or The Power of Ten
Some answers from the RW events page - no affiliation, and last year's entry was a massive 50 people.
The affiliated and non-affiliated entry fee appears to be the same.
Would love to do Finchley 20 but no on the day entries.
