  • Aluminium rim braking surfaces work.
    Carbon brake surfaces are light, and er, don't work ? Or they need special pads probably.

    It may be something to do with time triallers wanting to hammer out the highest speed for the longest possible time, and that means not braking for corners or downhills. You don't see carbon disk brakes on downhill mountain bikes.
