I've just had an email from Phil (the beginner from Nottingham), who says:
Copied from kerry or phillipas post. Message from Phil
the running is going well been jogging home from work most nights and doing longer runs at weekend only for about 45mins. the non smoking is going pretty good. i went on a mates stag weekend to the coast two weeks ago and had a few then but thats all. i've not seen the rw website yet so i've not seen the messages yet i will soon [ends].
Saw Phil tonight - he's had trouble registering for the site but he has read it - he says thanks for the messages of support and he reckons he's doing 12 miles a week - didn't ask him about the smoking but now I think of it can't remember him having a fag. I'll be going for a run with him in the next week or so to see how he is going on.
0-12 in 5 weeks is excellent going (remember all the advice about 'no-more-than-10%-increase-in-miles-per-week' RW is always giving . . . plenty of time yet).
Have spoken to Phil, he still can't post because his email isn't working so he can't get a confirmation mail to register. He said to pass on that he is still training and looking forward (!!!)to the marathon although he may have to miss the training camp due to family circumstances - he's doing a 10k on the 28th in Caythorpe so look out for the results.
hi folks managed to get on this thing at last. thanks for all the messages. the running is going well did my first 10k just after xmas finshed in a time of 44.05
That's brilliant Phil. I'm still not running because of a calf injury. Going to the marathon training camp in the Forest of Dean at the weekend. Shame you can't make it. Hoping to do a bit of biking. Cheers. Philippa
Nice to hear things are going ok Phil - that 10k result is a very good time - maybe you will be able to call on that speed towards the end of the FLM!
Read about the minor wobbles with the cigs in RW - don't worry if you have a few: just don't let the focus go: remember you're a runner now, not a smoker (I always told myself that), but it does take a while to nail the habit completely.
44.05 for a beginners 10k? i dunno what training schedule you are on, but my only advice for a beginner is to be patient when increasing speed/distance. it will all be for nought if you overdo it and do in a knee a few weeks before the FLM. JPVD. .
i know i had a problem with the cigs but not now. a friend told me to read a book called THE EASY WAY TO STOP SMOKING byALLAN CARR. It was brillant it really opened my eyes. i im now a non smoker and loving it.
Hi Phil It sounds like you're still doing brilliantly. Well done on giving up the ciggies - I bought a friend the Alan Carr book for Christmas cause he's been going on about giving up for ages!! Philippa and I went to the TrailPlus marathon training camp last weekend. I really enjoyed it and am hoping to go to another one 20-22 Feb. Enjoy your running!!
Bloody hell Phil! I just picked up my Dec issue of RW last night to see your face plastered in there! If somebody had told me at one of those allnighters all those years ago that you and I would both be marathon runners I'd have laughed myself silly. Good luck mate, enjoy it, it's a terrific day. I'll be on the course watching out for you. Tim (ex Thread)
