Cotswold 113 goes long in 2014

Cotswold 113 have today announced the ball is now well and truly rolling for a new event in their portfolio; the Cotswold 226 during the Summer of 2014

It will be a full iron distance event on a different course to that used on the 113, and although in the early stages of planning it promises to be very flat (and therefore fast) indeed.

(Also not well publicised by the team at Cotswold 113 is the efficient bike feed station they have.  That in itself is the biggest reason to enter image)

  • image "Flat" and "Cotswolds" are 2 words that don't normally go together in my experience!! image image

  • This will be a great race if the popular Cotswold 113 is anything to go by.

Great organisation and a fast course - this could have PB written all over it!!

Could be my A race next year if on the right weekend.

  • It *could* be The One for me, too!

But I am not going to make any rash decisions, although I am giving it thought
  • WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!

They have put on three awesome middle distance events in the last two years - I have done two of them. Had a feeling this was going to happen, and I hoped it would be this year for my IM debut. Was supposed to be my one and only (promised the missus) but this would just be too good to miss. Can feel a 'chat' coming up...

On the up side - she loves the feel at their events, the camping is close to race HQ and transition and I am sure she wouldn't take tooooo much persuasion to go through all of this again in 2014???

  • Interesting ....

I am thinking that next year I might like to try a quicker race (for me) to try and give me a better time for the year after

Will keep an eye on this one I think

  • will also keep an eye on it.might be a pirate race as 2015 the ship is going abroad.....

that said noit sure what I'm doing next year

  • Oo that sounds smashing. Was aiming for 113 this year but circumstances haven't allowed. Would be a good double whammy next year! Schmunkee - how chilly are the lakes currently?

  • MrsD - I haven't dared venture to Lake 32 this year. Will prob go at start/mid May. Gissa shout if you want company at any time; morning, evenings and weekends
  • Popping over for the sprint in May, so dipping a toe in prior should be a plan. Brrrrrr!

  • Sorry, Schmunkee, I forgot to mention that we had the best bike aid station people in the industry image
Details on the race are still at a very early stage, but we'll aim to make it as flat as possible and it'll certainly be a PB course, as well as friendly and welcoming for those new to the distance.
Like the 113 and Classic, we'll let entrants choose numbers, rack with their mates and if we do waves, then they'll get to choose their wave too so they can race with their mates. Also, like our existing races, if you want marmite sandwiches or cut oranges on the aid station, let us know and we'll provide them (within reason as Buluga cavier and lobster thermodor are expensive and not great for racing on! haha)
I'll keep you all posted as when info gets fixed, but thanks for everyone's enthusiam already, we're going to do our very best to make it a great race and keep the costs low whilst offering more

  • I rode past Lake 32 last Friday and Saturday and it looked F F F F Freezing!!

Lets hope the ice has thawed by June 16th... image

  • I wonder if Iceskating the swim leg could be an option ?? haha

  • If its going long in 2014 I'm definitely doing it! I'm on,y in newbury so would be nice and close too image
  • I've just bought a 7mm wetsuit with 5mm jacket oversuit: is that allowable?
What about the fins and scuba tank?

    Seriously, keep in touch Schmunks.

  • This has probably sorted 2014 for me. Only ever done hilly ones, so a flat'ish and fast one would be good. Just need the dates released now n
  • I think I've found something to do next year image

I did the August half last year and plan to again this year. It was a cracking event!

  • I have just paid my membership to Lake 32 for the coming year and so I am happy to escort anyone as a guest if they wish and the dates are convenient for me
  • this is looking like a nice bet for me in 2014image

  • Reluctant to commit to anything for 2014 yet but I have my doubts about Henley happening next year and this looks like a good alternative.

  • If you want to get a feel for Cotswold 226, then why not enter one of their middle distance events this year?

I have C&P'd this from their most recent newsletter

    Cotswold 113 (16th June 2013) and Cotswold Classic (11th August 2013) slots

We still have around 60 individual slots and around 5 relay slots available for entry at the June 113 and around 200 & 8 respectively for the August Cotswold Classic.

The slots are available online through www.113events.com

If you're not familiar with our 2 current races, then both events are held on the same Middle Distance course based out of Ashton Keynes Waterpark in the heart of the Cotswolds. The bike course is almost pan flat apart from one small climb and the run course is around +/-3m overall, so it's a fast course that's ideal for people either new to the Half Iron distance or those looking to smash out a new PB.

We try and provide for everyone and we have no strict cutoffs in any of the individual elements. The overall 'official' cutoff is 7hrs 30mins, but we've had finishers come in over the 8hr mark, and as long as you've not stopped for a 2hour pub lunch on the course, then within reason we'll keep the finish open and give you your medal and finish time for as long as it takes.

The races also have the facility for entrants to choose their own race number (we email out this around 4weeks before race date, and numbers are first come first served), choose a swim wave with their friends, family and club mates and rack with groups so you're not stuck out on your own during what can be quite a daunting experience if it's your first go at this distance. Flexibility is what we aim to provide, so if there's anything out of the usual you want, then let us know and we'll see what we can come up with for you (we've provided marmite sandwiches on aid stations for a competitor before as an example - I'm not convinced personally on the nutritional benefit of them though ! haha)

What have you got to lose? image

  • And this about the proposed 226

    2014 Events

As those of you that follow our facebook page or twitter feed will know, we're in the planning stages for an Iron Distance Triathlon in 2014 we're calling Cotswold226

We're still very early in the planning stages, but we've got together with the guys at DBMAX, and we're aiming to make Cotswold226 on as flat and as fast a course as possible without using too much of the existing 113 course. We're aiming for early summer, so around end May/early June. We'll aim to have entries open by the later this year.

Once more details are available, we'll send them out through our newsletter as well as facebook and twitter, so if you're interested, keep in touch.

They 113 and Classic will still be running and the 113 will stay mid June as it's normal weekend (one week later) is still occupied by the summer solstice and the police can't support our race in as many numbers as we'd like due to this). The August dated classic will also likely move back towards the end of August as per 2012.

Although it's still nothing like fixed. we may potentially have an end of season Olympic distance race next year too based on the number of requests, but that's even earlier in the planning stages, so we'll keep you all posted on that one too

  • Earlier in the year than outlaw then so even more cold training image

I was hoping it would be later in the year
  • Early summer ....  not for me then, I am not doing back to back winter training thank you very much image

  • Ooooh dear I'm sure I have no right to feel as excited as I do just by reading this. Feel too awake now; will never be in the pool for 6!

I have just remembered what it feels like to go to bed eyes wide and sparkling and grinning really hard on Christmas Eve -  WOW!

  • Join me on the suggested Oly distance at the close of 2014 season, tho Melds?
  • Hmm, May/early June, not quite as appealing now.

  • lurks.  Not keen on winter bike training but last summer was almost as bad as winter anyway. I'll see how I feel after Henley, I may have sold my bike after that.

Oli distance might be nice. Haven't done one yet.

  • It seems to me that early in the season is very good timing, it's not as if we get any warm weather guarantees anyway, this time last year it was in the 70s. And as for the half (classic) August is perfect as nothing happens in Aug! Am excited about both of these..........
