Just read on FB that a poor guy has died on the bike course of IM France. Terrible news! My thoughts are with his family, friends and the organisers. IRONMAN France Nice - Official announcement society IRONMAN has regret to announce the death of an athlete who took part this day, Sunday, June 23 at the IRONMAN France Nice.
At this moment all our thoughts as well as those of partners and all personnel associated with the organisation of the event go to the family, relatives and friends of the athlete.
The athlete was on the bike of the race course and the teams in charge of the Organization of the IRONMAN France Nice are currently working in full cooperation with the authorities to establish the circumstances of this tragic incident.
A press conference will be held this day in the presence of Yves CORDIER, Director IRONMAN France and clerk of the Course as well as Thomas DIECKHOFF, Director IRONMAN Europe, Middle East and South Africa.

Sad news indeed
Oh God, awful news, 2nd this week. Poor family and friends. Might sound trite but at least he died doing something he enjoyed. Here in Germany a senior vet died last weekend on a team cross tri, he didn't complete the 30km MTB.
we had a big down hill on a hairpin before Tourettes if I remember rightly?
sounds like an accident rather than the increasingly common cardiac arrest on the swim, thoughts go out to friends and family........

Very sad
There are some amazing results coming from France this year as well .. some guy has done a 38 min swim?
From the news link above, I think that is precisely the place that we saw crashes the year we were there ... right hand hairpin
Always the worry descending When I did Antwerp IM 70.3 a young lad died in a tunnel under the river coming off his bike when descending (and that wasn't steep at all)
Sobering thought to all of us! We all have loved ones to home to at the end of the day. So, race hard and fair but be careful too!
That's one hell of a swim, quicker pace than the Oly pros if my maths is about right
I have a friend doing it - looks like a dnf on the run as he has a bike time registered, (thankfully)
Very sad news.
