shed a tear myself. But I am soft like that. Got ripped by my daughter!
But what a great achievement.
BBC news guy likened its magnitude to that when England won the world cup. That's got to be getting carried away, considering the a national scale... but in my house, he's right.
One of the biggest sporting moments of in my lifetime for me.
Wish the Beeb and other News Agencys would remember that Virginia Wade won in 1977 so not exactly 77 years since the last British winner
But apart from that Well done Andy
That's Women's tennis which is up there with male multitasking and teenage enunciation for quality and depth. The only two athletes in the ladies get knocked out early and you end up with some overweight Italian also ran beating some German who sobs each time she loses a point contesting the final.
Laura robson enters the world's top 30 and announces she intends "to get fit". Tells you everything
Arguably Andy Murray decided "to get fit" when he was in the world's top rankings, yesterday much was being made of the improvement in his game since he made the decision. Becker commenting that a few years ago Murray was "a talented player" but unfit and Barker saying that you could see his dedication to improving his game in the way he's transformed his body shape.
Anyway, well done Murray I was also impressed with Djokovic's gracious speech at the end of the match.
Its a whole one year since Britain had a MALE winner - Jonathan Marray in the mens doubles just awaiting the calls for a Murray knighthood and he's already a shoo-in for SPotY
Mr Cameron said Murray's win had "lifted the spirits of the whole country"
So, do we all feel "lifted"?
Definitely.
Murray's achievement... the way he's battled. The way he's overcome repeated defeats, with absolute hard work and determination... and to win a second major (especially our home tournament), in a gladiatorial one-on-one sport....
...if you can't be inspired by that, then I find it hard to think what would lift your spirits.
Well said RW - you need to get over to the Guardian website, there are some really miserable feckers over there that are determined to harsh the mellow.
I think he's a great tennis player and it was a fab match. Just saying that there are lots of our sports people doing great right now, Froome for example.

Go Djokovic
Too close to call - they are very evenly matched.
The whole game could hinge on a few points here and there.
Am thinking more Murray to win now.
Drinking G&T watching Murray go two sets up. So glad I'm not running around in that heat!
40 degrees on court during the first set apparently.
Looks like I was talking out of my rear end ...
hang fire..
blimey...
Well done that man. Must be No 1 in the rankings after that, surely.
That looked hot! Well done Andy. No Djokovic remains No 1 apparently.
The rankings are separate for Wimbledon to world rankings.
well done what a game!!
Had a lump in my throat I did
Can't believe he did it in straight sets!
Well done Andy
Fantastic tennis from both players, a great match.Well done Andy to break that 77-year "duck"!
When you're getting 50-50 gambles wrong, you know your luck is out.

Do you mean Marion Bartoli? She's French.

It's always stressed when talking about the 77 years that it's that long since Britain had a MALE winner.
It's seems pretty well forgotten that actually Sue Barker won a Grand Slam title too, the French Open in 1976 and reached #3 in the world rankings.

You didn't have to wait long Dustin. Cameron is already banging on about it.
He's having tea at Number 10 right about now...
