liking the topic and would love help on my ironman journey. My wife and i are both newbies, both in are 30's and live in the North West. So you will have both of us to push and take the piss out of!
just a warning, I love a challenge (in 4 weeks I have improved my swimming from 50 meters to 2400 meters finishing in 50 minutes)
Plus I'm still playing rugby (union) this season, just so I can keep my beer drinking to a competitive level In preparation for PSOF gatherings.
4 time finisher plus has a wife who also competes, based northwest as well
great feeling when my mentee stormed to a better finish than me at Outlaw this year
Have another mentee thats IMUK this year and have taken on a DNF from outlaw this year, but more than happy to help.
PM me if interested or pick from any of the others, there all good
Ideal mentee would be someone who's not over competive and is looking to complete first Ironman.
Someone that's looking for occasional advice and support, pointing in the right direction, advice on where they need to be at certain points etc. Also checking their training plan and progress. My work and personal life can be busy so I cant commit to regular weekly chats or anything like that.
Im someone that can answer all the stupid questions and have the experience to explain about some of the factors youll need to think about at different stages in your training and preparation for race day.
Ive completed 15 Ironman races and DNF'd 3 others so know what makes the difference to finish.
Im based in Milton Keynes but im afraid I cant really commit to meeting up for any training sessions but that maybe possible if our race and training plans allow?
Hey Jaffa, how about me as a mentee? If I don't decide I hate IM after my first one this year I'd like to a) improve b) combine with training for a 50 mile run and c) improve my marathon time to get somewhere close to my PB. Can offer home baked cakes and an ability to drink cider and red wine as an incentive?
Not sure I can help based on the current level of support that you're getting Kate..........however seeing as you are offering cakes as an incentive then I'll willing try!
Cheers Jaffa. Are you at the Vachery this weekend, if so I will get baking. The study is interesting but I think I need a bit more technical help on the bike, I only discovered my left hand gears a month ago and a training plan which suits me a bit better with more running and starting from a decent fitness base.
Kate......in 2011 I smashed my marathon PB in the april..did a tough Ironman in the June and did the Lakeland 50 in the july........so it is doable...........
But then i did some more races and then did IMW where I failed as I was too knackered amoingst other things.............
so you can do lots of different things.............but then if you do too much it all starts going to pieces
Ha ha has anyone started to argue yet over the difference between a mentor and a coach and how people end up with unrealistic expectations of each other

Best I make a pitch:

I am stronger now but still remembering to take my rest weeks/ months now
That's what I am bad at, having a rest day today prior to my first half IM on Sunday, first one this month and I bloody hate it.

Having done 5 IM now and 3 halfs i would be happy to mentor anyone who needs some help or surport . Drop me a pm if you do Paul
i would mentor someone but they would have to live within 10 miles and let me shout at them when they couldnt keep up after 60 miles.
60 miles running that is
Ha ha has anyone started to argue yet over the difference between a mentor and a coach and how people end up with unrealistic expectations of each other

I doubt it, I've been around the pirates
Oi!

Well, a bloke and someone who feels a cartoon pic is better than their photo. Not making much of a case there
