I think that the IM brand would prefer that there was an international airport less than an hour away, preferably served by low cost carriers. Liverpool, East Midlands, Luton, Stansted, Gatwick, Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, and what's that place in North Ummer Land?
Blackpool certainly has an appeal to me, but they already have a major event at the end of season. Ever heard of the Illuminations? It would have to be start of season there.
Hey, I've just had a brilliant idea for a location: Cambridge? Maybe they don't need it. Milton Keynes? Yes that's a good target. Weston Super Mare? (Check tides first)

shouldn't have read this thread, I am now thinking about this for an end of season jolly next year. Only if it is close to me though as I would have to work on the Monday
Cambridge could be a good call..... would be a venue that allowed great PR/imagery...
Plenty of water around for the swim, flat as a pancake for PB oportunities, and potentially a more attractive brand to draw international athletes in...
I'd however, suggest that for an east mids based company, that a venue currently lacking a big event, is Grafham water.... also owned by Anglian Water who have a track record with Tri, supporting the Vit at Rutland, aas well as offering lots of potential for quiet roads and the bike ride.
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
Honestly really glad they have changed the venue, I did not think much to Henley to be honest and had marked the event on the "not to be repeated" list. Not so much because of the race but because of the infrastructure surrounding it and the split transition which really hacked me off.
Looking forward to the race next year, should be good to see.
Marshalled at The Gauntlet at Hever a few weeks ago (first time 70.3 for them) and there was talk of a full distance next year, maybe a Challenge event?
They already have full range of distances and kids races and big sponsor in Markel, plus not far from London, also TV coverage this year.
Pre-registrations have far exceeded what we expected on the first day, making it even more exciting to share where we are going to be in 2014. We will have several clues each day to help you narrow it down before the big launch on Wednesday.
As a major International triathlon event, accessibility is important. Our new venue is within 75 miles of 4 International airports and has it's own train station less than 1 mile from the swim, transition and the finish areas.
Remember all pre-registered athletes will have 24 hour priority to enter over general entries.
maybe the y will do the same with the event..in the swim you will get a clue to find T1.where yoiu will find another clue of where the bike course goes.....

Manchester could be an option its ticks all the boxes apart from being "ooppp north"
International Airport
swim in Salford quays
to the west of manchester is flat, to the east is hills, could get a bike course as hard / easy as you want to make it
Manchester comes out in force to support the manc marathon
Hmmmmmm the Pirate DIY half IM could do double the distance, wonder how much the license would be
challenge maccelsfield has a ring to it
If there was a challange manchester it could go up snake pass or something? Mind you I think that's to hilly even for a muppet like me.
Wasn't that done for the commonwealth games? Or I'm I confusing myself?

A new Challenge half? In September? I'd be up for that,as my birthday is on 16 September.
Challenge Aneka was always good
How about Challenge Croydon, there's swim, bike, running the gauntlet!
graffman is at grafham water already
Rutland Water springs to mind. But we don't need to swim 26 miles and run for 2.4.
from Challenge today

any guesses ?
Oooh, just 75 miles from air travel, how very local
its a bit childlike to give clues every day for a week isn't it....

a Challenge Treasure hunt then Seren ?
Our money is on Windsor at the moment
Rumours a few weeks ago were Maidenhead .........
swim is stated as scenic
Bike is rolling
Run is flat
So that's river or sea I would suggest and possibly international significant or recognisable beauty spot
Challenge London sounds awesome but not sure practical though
