Not sure why Gemma is up for discussion. Mate of mine at the club in the same boat as he only shows up with a finish time. His chip didn't work: the whole race it wasn't tracking him but did track all our other athletes. VLM reviewed pictures to give him an official time. I suspect Gemma is the same.
Looks like Gemmas chip failed from the start ? Which is completely plausible - she hasn't cheated at all - why is she up there ? I bet there are dozens in the same boat.
maybe the chip failed or maybe she forgot to put it on her shoe on the day ? Its not like she had a slow half and a miraculous recovery at the end is it ?
WW - probably a GFA to get into London. She's obviously a dedicated runner and has raised over £3k for Charity with her latest efforts alone so not all bad.
The rest, particularly the Serp 70+, it's difficult to know as they only seem to be cheating themselves.
If you were a bit senile is it possible to go to the loo and finish up on the wrong side of the road running in the wrong direction?
weren't her clubmates attempts to defend her exceptionally sheepish nonsense about how she only "targets" 1 race every 5 years or so? Meaning the other 20-30races in that time were just pootles?
...
She only started running in 2008, which means that Brighton would have been the first marathon that she "targeted" in 2013... Perhaps her club mates were intentionally being sarcastic and, thus, agreeing that her time probably was bogus.

Agree that was probably the reason for Brighton but it doesn't explain Paris, which I still think looks a bit dodgy.
But why would RW get sued? When people say meany things on twitters, it's the twits that get dragged down the police station and twitter gets off Mr Scotland free.
Under libel law, the writer, the publisher, the printer and, golly gosh, even the distributor can be done - and burden of proof is on whoever is accused of propagating a libel. Simply repeating something that's in wide circulation is not a defence. This is why Runners World is so careful, I'm sure.
If any of these go to court, I'll pay good money to sit in the public gallery and hear the defence. Cannot for the life of me think of a single plausible explanation for any

Bit harsh on Gemma though. The guys she's photo'd with at halfway (no 40999) finished in a similar time.

I was at a slightly busier part of the field and I got 20 pics. He's avoided the mats and the cameras too. He's like a running ninja.
In any 'crime' there needs to be motive.
JSW - attention seeker

Who's got the money to sue? Libel cases are notoriously expensive and difficult to prove.
and you'd only sue if you had a good case and were confident of winning...
The four people in that article linked to by psp are without a doubt the head-band-its judging by their photos.
