after a decades break. Cardiff will finally get a marathon again in 2017. We must have been one of the few capital cities in Europe without one.
Its going to be a flat course no doubt as Cardiff is mainly flat.
Just before London and full details to be released in the next few weeks...
Comments
Training will start 2nd of Jan 17 .
Will be keen to here more!
Thanks for highlighting this, seren. That would certainly be on my list for 2017.
I ran the last Cardiff full marathon, it will be nice to do it again. I wounder if it will be a two lap run or a one lap race ?
Goodness that is good news I ran the last one
Miles makes smiles.
Progression
It's good that it's in April, I mean it's not like there aren't any other marathins that month
Great news that Cardiff will have a marathon again, never got round to running the one they had before.
Shame it's April though as Llanelli's Great Welsh race entry will suffer
- great news - no details anywhere yet though - they better get planning quickly?
I think they said when announcing on Sunday that full details would be revealed in two weeks. It's a shame they didn't announce it sooner, as I think a lot of regular marathoners will have already decided or at least have an idea of what Spring marathons they're aiming for.
Hiya Everyone - been a while since I've joined in and spoken on here. The Marathon details appeared online today but where taken down quite quickly. Here is the screenshot I was sent earlier.
Good date. Don't like the hype or the price! What is the so-called 'world's favourite run'?
Fifty-five Quid... ouch.
Anyway, I'd already entered Manchester before they announced this. Manchester will cost me a fortune more because I'll need a hotel there!
A bit pricey but without travelling OK....it would make me think twice before entering it if I had to travel.....I didn't realise it was going to be run by the great run company....their events are always too expensive for me....and too crowded and hyped....I will do the first one but Wong do any after that....hopefully not too busy on the first
Worth running the first one.
Gareth
If it is run by the great run company then it will be expensive.....they have set up a Birmingham and sterling marathon for next year and they are both £55...looks like they are branching out to marathons...
The Cardiff half offers a big discount to welsh club runners....wonder if there is discussions about keeping that discount....I doubt a massive company will do it
Run 4 Wales are the half organisers...not sure if there is a connection
Just been reported that the Cardiff full marathon has been cancelled for 2017. It might make a reappearance in 2018!

Well, that was well thought out then...
I did think it was announced a bit late in the day. Apart from those looking a Plan B after London ballot results come through, I'd have thought that quite a few would have already decided what they were running next Spring
that was an organisational mess.dissapointed..with doubts whether llanelli marathon will go ahead.not sure where to go for a fast spring race

"An announcement from organisers the Great Run Company, in conjunction with Run4Wales, said they had agreed to work alongside Cardiff council and the Vale of Glamorgan council with the aim of staging the event in 2018.
Instead there will what has been called a "stepping stone event" in Cardiff Bay on April 2 next year."
What the heck is a 'stepping stone event'? They had better announce that soon so people have time to plan.
I think I'll give Manchester a go.

yep stepping stone event tells us nothing
I might have to consider manchester
This stepping stone event (whatever it is ??) Might fit nicely into London build up..
2 weeks before London would be a bit close for any London build up
Thought it was 3 weeks before which would be ideal....must have got dates wrong.
i think you are right Tom..
there wont be that many people doing London in the area.and they are giiving no idea of what they are going to do
