I am on the Heathrow flight to Rotterdam tomorrow morning. Setting off from home soon as staying in a hotel tonight - two hours from here.
Feeling underprepared despite the twenty mile races I have done. Done NO running this week after the 10 mile XC race on Sunday. Hope the rest has done me good.
Landed back in wet, snowy UK. What a con trast to Rotterdam.just under 3.20 5 min slower than i would have liked but never seem to be able to do last 10k in under 50min,but still enjoyed run, Toronto Waterfront marathon in sept perhaps i'ii find that elusive 5 min there, need a bit of speedwork. HOPE EVERYONE ELSE HAD A GOOD RUN & ENJOYED ROTTERDAM.
Decided to go for a 3:10 pace anything inside would be a bonus. For the first mile and a half it was impossible to go quicker than 8m/miling as it was so packed. Finally began upping the pace and was running really well, started to feel a little burn at 16km. Went through ½ marathon at 1:33:37. I was on for 3:08 and still feeling pretty good. The next 5k were into a fair breeze and although hard I didn’t slow too badly. I got to 28k with a third of the way to go and fell apart, people were passing me and I was desperately trying to keep going and hold on for 3:15. I was going slower and slower and my target changed to 3:20. Then it was ‘as long as I set a p.b.’(3.21.40. to beat). Finally finished with a 3:22:43 and absolutely knackered (dreading seeing the photos). Got back to the hotel and looked like I’d aged 10 years. The crowd support was excellent and really enjoyed the music in the build up to the race. A far better and bigger event than I ever imagined.
Recovery started, swim, jacuzzi, and streamroom and of course ibuprofen, now for a little lie down! Pleased to here that Paul made the time he was looking for.
