mister w are you alowing for the fact that roth starts in waves, those times may be from the start of the first wave to the cutoff for the last wave, not the actual length of time allowed for the swim?
No part of the reason I swung towards this one is I heard the Dutch race was ITU distance which is shorter however they have kept the classic as well.
The two triathlong converning bodies have different ideas about what constitutes long course but the Dutch race respects both just doesn't have a WTC licence for the brand name
I wonder how Almere weighs up to it... maybe we better investigate. I like the fact that it is half the price and ebing from the Netherlands, I have no worries about accommodation either.
Well mine is not made yet, but it is either one or the other! Leaning over to Almere because of cost and home country ease, Roth however sounds like a very special event.
yeah but Almere is a different distance, the swim is longer, the bike much shorter and the run also shorter as far as I remember. Roth is much hillier than Frankfurt, smiffy. But no probs with swim sighting as you swim down one side of the canal and back the other. easy-peasy.
I know Slummo and I are doing Almere this August in GB rather than pirate colours (but I might sneak a pirate buff into the mix and BT org say I can put a Fetch sticker on my kit too...)
one lap marina swim starts at 7:45 with a 2:15 cut off at 10 am being a sea swim the chances of a wetsuit ban are pretty much non existant, never known the sea to reach 24 degrees around the channel!! bike 3 times 60km cut off at 17:00 so that gives you 7 hours to do the bike if you scrape the swim cut off run 3 laps, with a 2 lap cut off at 21:00 and final cut off(end) at 22:30
no problem for many and even novices can be fine. Wouldn't advise a novice slower than a 2 hour swim to do it. it's tempting fate too much sailing that close to the wind. 7 hour bike is only an average of 16mph. if it is a flat course then that should not be a problem for most. then if you are only just in the 17:00 cut off you have 4 hours to do 29 ish kms thats over 13 minute miles!! then one and a half hours to do the last 14kms

People do breaststroke in IM races but you see what a coach could do with your crawl
Heart thing - I don't know you would be advised to declare it but with anything like this you compete at your own risk
swapping from a mountain bike to a light weight road bike is a joy if you have stength from the moutain bike then you will find that you fly
You need mental strength more than anything
I have just gone from IE to Firefox for my browser and my God it is so much faster! (That's an aside...)
I think the IM record was set at roth??

I might be tempted by this as an end of year fun race next year. should be easy to get to. make a nice weekend away.
Mister W pointed me this way....
What is going on?
How many pirate peeps are doing Roth? Almere?
