Hi, I’m after some advice after just finishing my first ever marathon. I was aiming for around 04:15 mark based off of my training at target pace. However during the race nothing went to plan. I’d used the same gels and fueling strategy that I’m used to however after my 3rd gel at 1:30 my stomach didn’t like it. As I got further into the race I struggled more and more to take on fuel with risk of throwing it straight back up. I only managed my target MP for 18k and started to run-walk from 27k or so onwards. Everytime I started to run again, I felt more and more nauseous. It got the point in the last 10k that I just had to hang on as couldn’t stomach any fuel. I ended up finishing the race in 04:53 Has anyone had this before? Just curious as to why this might have happened. Whether it’s nerves, high heart rate, dehydration or something else.
