Has anyone got or tried the Casco Speedairo? I've been having a look and quite like the idea of the integrated visor saves fannying around with sunglasses etc
A lot of the latest thinking that I've read suggests that aero helmets are very individual, and what works for one person, doesn't for another. Saying that, IIRC, the Kask helmets did well in an aero test, and the long tailed older designs well if you kept your eyes forwards, but if you keep looking down, they're worse than a standard road lid.
Another factor is ventilation....holes slow you down, so by design, aero helmets are going to be hotter.... possibly not good news if you're racing in June or July.
For me personally, I don't feel like I'm quick enough on the bike to feel anything other than a bit of a knob if I were to wear an aero helmet...
when I can bang out a 10mTT in 25 mins, then I'll think about it!
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
The reason I ask is I have to get a new lid, I guess I was thinking I didn't want to get one only to find I wish I'd got another after spending a wedge of cash..... the crux of it all is I need a decent new lid so open to offers of advice
I love mine - i raced in Vichy last year where it was 40deg+ and my head did not over heat. the venting is good and efficient and the fit (for me) was nice and comfy
Not got one of those but I have an aero giro that I used in Austria last year. I was surprised at not overheating in it - I don't think its as much of a problem as I thought it would be. Smashed the bike with it..
Looks nice, and have always wondered why helmets don't dome with snap-on visors, would mean I could wear prescription specs instead of riding semi-blind, but a bit expensive!
Perhaps I'll wait for the Decathlon own brand version.
Wiggle and co were selling the Kask Infinity before Xmas for ??99, but its back up to ??150 now. That's a helmet you could use for road as well as racing.
Tbh yes i wear it to train but usually only in summer and when on my TT bike, for winter I just use a bog standard Halfords lid, the visor is removeable if you want to wear sunnies instead.
I've just ordered one myself. I had ordered an air attack shield but it just didn't seem to fit on my head correctly and visor barely covered my eyes. I tried the casco today and it was a much better fit (for me personally) with the visor covering much more of the eyes. Yes you can take the visor off completely and just use it as a road helmet. Only negative i could find is it weighs more than the giro. So far as ventilation goes i don't know as i haven't ridden either out and about yet. Either way, if you put in the code BACK1 on probikekit.co.uk you may be able to get an extra 10% off. (If you're an existing customer). And yes I agree, you look like a wasp! But wasps are quick!
How do you know what sort of visor to fit before your race ? What it the weather changes during the race, or you leave Nice promenade in sunshine and cycle into a hail storm in the mountains ?

It does look good, I've also just had a look at the air attack (thanks Cougie) the casco is still edging it though
It doesn't have the visor though which means I'd need to get some new sunnies too. The missus would not be impressed
The Casco could be used for normal road as well as race couldn't it?
Tri220 did a fairly good article on aero lids last month I think, with reviews of the top 10 - it'll be on their web site somewhere no doubt.
I have a Casco Speedairo and its a nice comfy lid with loads of ventilation.
In Pirate gear and with the visor down, from certain angles, you may look a bit like a wasp though
Effing Madness & WildWill - Do you wear yours for training rides too?
