  • I am doing my first ever half marathon in September and will be started serious training this weekend hopefully getting in 4-5 runs a week including intervals, fartlek and long runs. I am a 25 year old man and had a pretty unhealthy lifestyle in the last 7-8 years and looking for a change, in general I am quite active. I am using the sub 1:30 training plan on the website however I am a litte confused about something if people can help. The speedwork sessions are confusing me for example:

    Tue Speedwork 6 x 800m, 100m jog (7M total) 5K 60 mins 8/10

6 x 800m = 3 miles... the says 100m, is that a 100m sprint or jog and do I do it straight after my 800m? Also all in all that only equals 4 miles, where do I get the other 3 miles from?

Another example: 8 x 500m, 200m jog (7M total) is not 7 miles in total.

Another thing is what is THR, one sessions says:
    Thu Threshold 7M (inc 4M THR) 1/2M 50 mins (27 mins THR) 8/10

7 miles incluidng 4 miles THR - what is this please?

  • Get a guaranteed FREE place at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2019 for your preferred run when you choose the Rock Trust as your charity.

Available: Full Marathon | Half Marathon | 10K Run | 5K Run | The Hairy Haggis Relay | Junior runs

We ask all of our adult runners to aim to raise only a minimum of £150, or £300 if they are running the full Marathon. We ask our junior runners to aim to raise £50. We will support you along the way with fundraising tips and ideas, training advice, a free Rock Trust running vest, and stories from our frontline work so you know the impact your support is having.

All of the money raised will go directly towards our work with young people affected by or at risk of homelessness. We currently work with over 400 young people a year, and with your help we intend to reach even more!

Email [email protected] or call 0131 557 4059 for more information.
