I am quite surprised this works. Can anyone explain why?
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to
have dinner out. (try for more than one but less than 10)
2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)
3. Add 5. (for Sunday)
4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If you
haven't, add 1752..........
6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
You should have a three digit number .
The first digit of this was your original number
(I.e., how many times you want to have eat out each week.)
The next two numbers are...
YOUR AGE!
THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK.

You remember algebra?
Lets put in the variables
n= number of times you like to eat
b= year of birth
So we go through the puzzle:
1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have dinner out. (try for more than one but less than 10)
That's n
2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)
2n
3. Add 5. (for Sunday)
2n+5
4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator................
50(2n+5)
or to put it another way
100n+250
(so that's your number n as the first number in then final bit -multiplying it by 100 moves it two places to the left.)
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753.... If you
haven't, add 1752..........
100n+250+1753
or
100n+2003
(hmm where did 2003 come from suddenly?)
6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
Do I even need to do this bit for you - we all know that the current year minus the year you were born gives your age!
So, yes, this is the only year this particular piece of mathematical wonderness will ever work but we can tweak it for next year already....
5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1754.... If you
haven't, add 1753..........
I'm so f**king clever...
Right - everybody out!
Damn, they've all gone...
you change the numbers to 1753 and 1754 it will work in 2004,
1754 and 1755 it will work in 2005 and so on....
God is this thread sad, Im going for a 23 mile training run to regain my sanity...
