12 year old time for 100metres

having a quick look at the race website of a recent event I was going to do, I noticed that the aylesbury clubs record for the 100meters for an under 13 year old is 12.2 seconds!!

is it me or is that fast!

I'm 25 and and have reasonable pace but have never actually timed a 100metre run.

i just figured that if the best do under 10secs, i'd be a few secs slower...

however i'm not convinced any 12 year old should be beating me? They just aren't built for it at that age..unless this one is just a freak!

therefore I'd imagine i should be doing under 12 secs for a sprint

ps..what a rant...i'll trya timed 100metre one day soon!

    Good county standard there?

I dipped below 13 seconds when I was a lad.
    Did't like sprinting more, 1500m and x-country.

Harder to shave the seconds off over such a short distance?

yep - Jjunior has a couple of mates who are near that time and its equivalent for U15s.

It's what happens to them between then, and when they should be competing as adults, that's the worry.

i was reasonable at that age, but now am much quicker fitter etc than i ever was at that age.

Must have a go at doing a timed couple soon!

They find sex, drugs and rock n roll!

I got the hangover, t-shirt and the wonder of what could of been.

They've also got less weight to shift 100m. I remember the sprinters doing 12 seconds for 100m when I was roughly that age. They were district / county standard though.

    Jjunior's 15-year-old chum ran 12.1 last week and she's 5ft 10!

I could well see the fastest 17/18 year olds being super quick..like theo walcott, who isn't evena designated sprinter..it's the age 12 side of things..you're not fully grown or close to it, ok you have less weight but you also haev less muscle..

about 2 years back i played footy against a bunch of not out of shape 15 years olds as a fit 23 year old...and just waltzed past them for pace...

i do hate sprinting tho..apart from in football...always feels slightly out of control and ahell of a lot of effort for a tiny space in time!

    I agree i kept think where's the f**king brakes!

Have to check my school report I think I hit about 12.3.
P*ssed off though, was told to take my spikes off! As I was the "atheltics" kid I had the gear for it, unfair advantage......

I did 12.61 for my school (school record since been beaten) on a grass track when I was 14... they've since relayed with proper rubber track, these youngsters now, haven't got a clue ;-) *blah bahh humbug*

    rubber track?

    Not even a cinder track!

Kids these days. Next they be having air max trainers<i belive they are called> instead of stout pilmsoles.

I did 12.38 as a 13 year old and I was far from being the fastest at my school (I didn't even make the relay team) and our school wasn't even that good!

Check out UK Athletics website for the list of age records. Some of them are scary.

my ego won't handle that hammerite so i'll pass!

I'll stick with knowing i can beat a 12 year old at sprinting!

Schoolboy record was 11 summat at my school for the hundred. On grass.

I was nowhere near but the sprinters were easy that quick.

    16-18 deffo that quick..no arguments

just find it hard to visualise a bunch of 3 foot 12 year olds knocking out a 12sec 100metre!

I did 12.6 seconds when I was 14 (34 now) - no-one was more surprised than me (and I still came 3rd). Haven't ran a 100m for many, many years but I'd be surprised if it were less than 15 seconds (guessing about the 17s mark).

As an aside, one of my 4 year old boys (I have 2) can motor pretty well - especially when chocolate is involved (I make them run to the top of the garden and back!)

Probably down to all the growth hormones filtering down through the food chain - battery fed chickens become supersized children

bigger / stronger / faster / die younger?
