After spraining my bad ankle on friday playing football.. I have had to come to the decision that 2012 is a total wipeout in terms of running and triathlon.
Check this for a year... I think I should win some kind of worst season of the year award! These are only the events I had planned on entering and had paid for most of them
Either that or a new ankle!! I have been so motivated this year which has been the annoying thing... and have been faster than I could have ever imagined I would be!
The original injury was from running... well an obstacle race thing... that was in March. Then I have pretty much been living at the Physio until the Outlaw which was my first proper run since March... managed to get around 16 miles or so of that without too much pain but a lot of drugs
Then decided to play football last weekend as a one-off, it felt fairly ok... until I put pressure as I was running around and went down on it again... much more painful than last time
I am no longer with the physio, and dont plan on going back really... I just plan to get fat now over the next few months!!!
GB .. I have had numerous ankle issues over the years
Whilst you are out there counting the pennies you have lost and the beers you shouldnt have had you really really need to do some stability exercises, buy a wobble board or use a rolled up towel for starters and get some strength back in the ligaments and tendons
I was just at the point where I had enough flexibility that I could start doing things like this, and had been doing for a couple of weeks... oh well back to square 1 for me now
Golden it's been a sh*t year mate and bad things happen sometimes to good people. Don't beat yourself up about it to much or I've kick your arse. Chill out grab a beer or 10 and heel up. Next time you might storm it dude.
GB i did this stepping off a slow moving canal boat.
Physio used ultra sound on it and it worked wonders along with a few exercises. I'd go in hobbling and come back out with a spring in my step, my be worth seeing if you can get something similar? If you just rest it you can build adhesion's which leave you stuck without proper movement in it for life.
They do have a pesky tendency to stay weak after injury, ankles, don't they? I've been a. stupid and b. stupid enough to break one of mine and knacker the ligaments in the other. Both done when I was young, optimistic and invincible. Neither of them healed properly and they're both wobbly now, with the right one sticking out at a 10-degree angle. Enjoy your middle age, GB.
Off to the physio today. Hoping to get the nod that my hammie is OK to ride again.

Hamstring strain. Bollox!
rest, ice, compression and elevation
have to admit the on the commute this morning could feel a slight pull in the groin
The Eirias was a tough event. Take it easy, Tenby is the goal.
Tried one legged squats today, would hae been funny to watch!
Thats sounds a bit hardcore Mufin!!
Perhaps we should have a One LeggedSquat Winterleague
Not sure there would be a very big league table for one legegd squaters. Although much less pauinful than a timed 400m swim.
My core needs some serious work (just in case I do another)
I didnt find the 400 too bad ... perhaps I should try harder?
One legged squats on the other hand .... (or leg)
Just me out today then ??
Swim for an hour and 2 hrs on the mtb ... perfick !
Living the dream eh Donna ??
Lovin' the Donna name change.
It had to be done ... I cant take credit for someones typos tho
8 mile very hot and humid run for me last night last, groin felt OK
can still feel Eirias in my legs, but have a 100mile sportive on Saturday

Have you been seeing a sports physio?
GB
I sort of fell into triathlon from running which came after football as I was getting injured to much
The original injury was from running... well an obstacle race thing... that was in March. Then I have pretty much been living at the Physio until the Outlaw which was my first proper run since March... managed to get around 16 miles or so of that without too much pain but a lot of drugs

IMO flexibility is slightly different to stability tho ... you need to have the strength
sorry I mean I couldn't do any stability stuff as I had a bit more flexilibility and less resistance in the ankle
I have decided though, as mentioned above, I am going to become fat and unhealthy... and then prepare for a comeback when I'm 40!!
Knowing you - you'd miss it and realise you were 41
