A mate is having to withdraw from this race. IM will be able to resell his place in seconds but are only offering a 50% refund. Alternatively he can transfer his entry to another competitor for a cost of 29Euro, a cost he'd prefer to bear.
So, if there's anyone out there who wants a place (the cost being approx. £460) please let me know.
Have been exploring the option of driving but on top of chucking 2k on the odometer, the prospect of 14+ hours in car with semi functional legs (that's post event, naturally) is one that doesn't excite me too much. It may transpire that needs must.
We did it from Zurich. It wasn't too bad but I think this time we're planning an overnighter somewhere to break up the journey a bit.
That's where my geography failed me last time. I flew from Klagers to Zurich via Vienna for a meeting. I then saw a map and realised the huge waste of time.
Munich or Salzberg potentially closer than Zurich for driving.
you could drive to Klaggers in a long day from Calais but an overnighter is better
when we did it in the minibago, we overnighted about 100km Munich after driving from Calais that morning. that left and easy drive to Klaggers the following morning and we were there just after lunchtime
on the way home we had a few days R&R at Lake Maggiore in Italy...
Might have to investigate hotels at Heathrow. Flights which left at a sensible time of day (eg 0915) didn't arrive at Klaggers mostly till late evening (2130). Leave at 0600 and you're in Klaggers at 1030.
I am flying out from Stansted (conveniently located for me) to Munich and hiring a car. My bike is being shipped over by a tri specific courier. The return flights on Sleazyjet were about £170 return (including the cost of a piece of hold luggage and a seat with roomier leg space). It was about the same again for a week's hire of VW Golf.
I think flying from Luton or Gatwick, with same carrier, would have been £50-60 cheaper.
Staying in an apartment on outskirts of town centre, I figured this travel arrangement would be the most cost effective and least stressful way of travelling, with no tight/lengthy stop over between connecting flights. The car also allow me to shuttle around kit and support team on race day.
So, yes, training... mine's OK but far too light at the moment. I need to up game significantly but will be tempered by bits that are already starting to feel a bit wonky!
I will be at Cotswold 100 with a couple of other wannabe IMAians.
My training's been a bit hit and miss. January was reasonable on consistency but light on miles; February was rubbish; March will (must) be better than both.
Hoped to get out on the bike both days this weekend but time available tomorrow is being eaten into by other stuff. Sunday looks like it's going to be an even better day for pedalling though
Thanks for the link Trogs. Few questions.... What's the likliehood of it not being a wetsuit swim? Not that I mind but I've got a shiny new Blue Seventy Reaction and I wouldn't like it to go to waste. Also, how hot are we expecting? I bailed out of Switzerland as I don't perform too well in the heat. Beginning to think I should have gone more Scandanavian

I can check one of those three - though I did go for a jogette yesterday morning. Might go for another tomorrow. Maybe. Don't want to overdo it
Official 30 week programme kicks in on Monday. Bring it on
Does it start with a rest day?
All good training plans start with a rest day
I started a day early! I took my rest day today.
Yep, Day 1 today, rest day
100% complete so far
I trained today so that must mean I'm ahead of the game; probably for the only time in the next 6 months though

It seems Ryanair have cancelled their direct (and convenient for me) flights from Stanstead to Klagenfurt.
Has anyone sorted out their travel and able to point me in direction of easiest route from UK, with bike?
Cheers.
We're planning to drive. Robbie. That's a PITA isn't it, blooming Ryanair.
I've flown to Klagers from Heathrow via Vienna.
It's also about 2 hrs drive from Venice or an hour from Ljubljana.
Thanks.

My brother did Ryanair to Treviso which was just over an hour by car to Klagenfurt if that's any help
Flights booked
17 weeks to go
Yay
Must book the ferry. I think we're planning on an overnighter either way now. We googled Klagenfurt and it's a really long way
17 weeks bounce, bounce, bounce

Anyhow, how's everyone's training going?
17 weeks ... gulp.
In case it is of any help:

Cheers FB, we figured we'd get somewhere close to Munich but alas no stops in Italy on the way back, unless Trogs?...
Training this end has gone better than we ever expected (crosses fingers so that I haven't doomed it)
Drafting my letter of resignation just in case

We are taking leisurely 3 days down and 3 days back. Junior is just going through potty training so any longer days will be like Russian roulette.
Training finally hit consistency in February. Thank feck!
Howdy Scott and welcome
Hi Scott, welcome aboard
