    Hey.

Doing this (hopefully) as my first half-IM... good luck to everyone. Slightly paranoid question, but i signed up at the beginning of the year (yep... needed that much prep), my names on the entrycentral list but haven't heard a thing from the organisers, none of the usual final prep e-mails. Has anyone else...?

I'm coming along to support.  If you want me to look after anything or provide a special needs station then let me know.  I don't own a camera but if anyone wants me to be unofficial photographer then I am willing to use theirs.

Well done everyone that supported and took part today. Brill to meet everyone. Next year I might go the right way on the run but it was worth the extra seeing the dead pigeon image

Well done to everyone today, was great to meet new people and see some people again that I have already met. Had a great time supporting, pirates once again showing we are brill at supporting everyone whether they are a pirate or not, I think we put a smile on a few people's faces today.

Supporters report:  There were six Pirates out on the course.  They all did very well and finished before I got too sunburnt.  Plus Ralph, of course.  I broke a fork and sat on a thistle.

    Ok I'll have a go .

Race was held at market bosworth water trust. Swim was in the lake there. Water was warmer than last year, but had masses of pond weed. Nice swimming with it slapped over your face and attacking your legs like triffids.

Tired badger did a brill time awsome 30 mins!

cycle was mega windy. Had some hills but some flats too. Drink/feed on one part of the loop ( 4 loops) decent nutrition I stopped once and got a bottle of high 5 yummy not!

Run- hilly one way nice on the way back if you go the right way. I went to visit a farmer half a mile off the course saw a dead bird thought "I don't recognise you" relised I had gone the wrong way for half a mile. Went back on course and continued. JP went this way too but is not as daft as me and realised sooner. Saw the awsome Joddly, smiling as always and running like a machine.

Brilliant pirate support kept me going as did a chat with cake - we did some 20 second intervals togetherimage

Finally got back Tired badger had eaten a 5 course meal by this time and Joddly had showered been manicured and massaged.

Cake got his ice cream although Sarah did eat the first flake and mrs digger the first ice cream to dave it from melting. Suck it up buttercup was awsome and If I was giving spot prizes she would get most elegant finish.

    well done everyone!

A fun day was had by all.

    great report Chris

Never thought about a supporter's report, so here's mine

Left home really early because I wanted to get there to see buttercup before the swim, didn't get lost on the way and actually had enough change to get through the car park barrier! Quickly found Caz, Chris, Sarah, Tired Badger. Went to the loo and found buttercup getting into her wetsuit, zipped her up and off she went. Saw the swim start, then the supporters went to the feedstation for coffee - watched the swim from the comfort of the feedstation (cafe). We could pick out cake and buttercup. Went over to cheer them on as they got out of the swim, and waited for the last guy who was going really slow. We gave him a big cheer which he seemed to like. Then back to the feedstation for breakfast. Then off to cheer on the bike course. Cheered everyone through their laps and onto the run. Attempted to do a mexican wave everytime a pirate finished, not sure how comical that lookedimage we also did one for Ralph - the last guy from the swim who was also the last guy back on the bike

Went out with MrsDigger to look for buttercup after cake finished and ran back with her, everyone ran the last few meters to the finish chute with her - not sure she was in any state to enjoy the finish!

A fwe quick sweaty hugs all round and off home

Great reports, it was a brilliant day, the Pirates are ace, really great to meet you all and see Buttercup and Badger again.

I was surprised to find I wasn't the last out the water and got a good start on the bike for the first couple of loops, then it got a bit windy and the last 2 were a struggle, I really tried to get under 3 hours on the bike but was about 3.20, I really wanted to get as close to 6 hours as possible so started pretty quick on the run (for me) and tried to keep the pace up far as long as poss, I kept it up for about 2 laps then it started to hurt for the last 2, I got to see the others on the run as it was 4 laps so we all passed each other a couple of times, I even got a sweaty Cake hug, that made my day.

The Legendary Pirate support was amazing and really added to the event cheering everyone up, and Buttercup got the full escort to the finish line image.

It was a great day and my first Half IM distance, I'm sore all over now but very happy, I'm looking forward to next years Outlaw.

Don't forget singing, 'build me up Buttecup'! The small one did sooo good!

Realised did quite well with free hot chocolate and ice cream!

Rockin day. Fab effort by all racing. Even those that took detours image So smashing to see everyone. One of the organisers did ask if pirates were slowly taking over the world!

I think I was a bit tired while posting last night, I only did 2 run laps like everyone else not the 4 I seemed to have thunk I did image

I also ran the wrong way like Red Dog Chris on the run, I thought it seemed a bit quiet before turning round an seeing a runner go the wright way, I didn't make it as far as the pigeon though image

Forgot to mention that LumptyJ (my o/h) was waiting at the end of my run after completing the Kenilworth Half Marathon and ran the last few hundred meters with me, in her flip flops, I struggled to keep up image

Cheers Schmunks... I too struggled with t'internet Maths! Will record again Wed me thinks!

Don't worry JP, we knew what you meant. She seems a good'un LumptyJ.

Well here it is image a bit long...

The day started early before the sun got up.  Large brekkie, packed everything up and loaded it into the car.  Got to Bosworth Water Park in good time, registered and set up the bike and kit to find I had left the bike shoes at home!  Mad sprint across carpark to husband and made him go back and get them.  Which he did in very good time!  Had a good chat to SuperCaz, Red-dog-Chris, JP and Cake before I escaped off to manhandle myself into my wettie when I found MC lurking around the loos and got her to help me squish my flubber into the sausage casing (I always feel like a sausage wearing my wetsuit).

Got into the water to swim to the start – have to say the weed was hideous yesterday – I think the cull they did a couple of weeks back just made it grow more vigorously.  Started at the back still managed to get a whack to the head, but all good.   There were some very speedy swimmers in that lot! I would have liked to get on and do some drafting but that wasn’t an option.  I wasn’t the last out and I made the time I expected and was happy to get out of the water and on to the bike.

I was surprised to see Cake in transition as I thought everyone would be long gone.    Out onto the bike and I didn’t get passed by the uber fast boys until 1.5 laps along so I wasn’t too unhappy with that.  The wind took it’s toll – the course is ‘relatively’ flat but that wind is a killer.  I pinched Cakes caramello bunnies and thank goodness I did as I had forgotten my bananas and left two of my nakd bars in transition.  I stopped later for a banana and a bottle of high5 but I think it was a bit late by that point.  I also dropped one of my remaining bars on the bike course.   So really Cake’s bunnies reclaimed at least some of the day.  Loved the bike support from Mrs D, MC and Super Caz!!

Off the bike I wasn’t last the young guy (who was very polite when I asked him if he was okay on the last lap of the bike) was about 20 minutes? Half an hour behind me.  I was okay with my bike it was about 20 minutes longer than I had anticipated but given the conditions and my nutrition levels I was okay with it.  With my borrowed visor (thank you Mr Digger) I headed out and saw Red_dog_Chris in the distance and thought sweet will just keep my eyes on him.  Which worked for about the first 3 kms until my legs decided that they had had enough for the day thank you very much.  About which time I got passed by some very fast peeps including a very smiley Joddly!  And I wanted to go faster – got a bit frustrated with myself have to say I wasn’t meeting the times I thought I should be able to do.   Have to say the lovely lady marshalls singing to me at the turn around point was a neat surprise and kept me going!  I told myself I wasn’t allowed to walk for at least the first 10k and I didn’t.  The third 5k was not good for mental toughness – walked for bits of it.  The last 5k was just plain hard graft – not helped by three large tractors going at speed trying to mow me down!  I have to say I perked up a bit (at least mentally) when I saw Mrs D and MC who were just out for a stroll and “ran” with me the last km.   I was a bit overwhelmed when everyone at the finish line break into song and run with me to the end! I have never had such a neat bunch of people sing to me!!

My legs were just knackered (literally shaking holding me up) at the end, I was quite smelly (the deodorant gave out about half an hour into the run), but I finished!  It was a win for mental toughness and a hard lesson in getting my nutrition right on the bike.

At the beginning of this year I couldn’t swim more than 25m without feeling like I was dying, I had never run since high school, biking was the only thing I felt I could do.  Now I know I can do all three – just need to get faster and improve the tuning on my internal engine!  I would like to do this event again to see what a years improvement can do.

Thank you very much Pirates and Piratey other halves your support was beyond awesome.

Just realised that LumptyJ snuck in there... Helloooo and lovely you meet you too!

  • Options

I'll get a report done later today, but just to say it was lovely meeting some new faces and seeing some pirates I have met before. The pirate support is just amazing and gives such a lift Thing that summed it up for me was when a lady from a tri club that had turned up as a group was finishing and her club support that was sat next to us had left and she passed through with the pirate support and sdome tumble weed, and then there was the pirates waiting to see the last one in with the cheers getting greater as each passed through, so lucky to be a pirate and wear the black and yellow.

You did good work small one! Very very proud! image Top report too!

Brill report buttercup!  You were awsome! As were you all yesterday! Glad I don't have work today, back tomorrow, legs should be getting back to normal soon. Jp the pigeon was one of the highlights of the run, you missed a trick there lol. Well done to Lumpty J too!

Ay up will do a proper race report later but for now very well done buttercup and JP for your first one and for the rest of you always a pleasure to be playing with the kids. Didn’t exactly pb yesterday but was top fun and a defiant improvement on the last 12 months race wise. Only down side was didn’t get much of a change to say hello to maths properly. See some of you for Stratford at the end of the month and hopefully in cosmo. image
