Does anyone know if it's possible to get a refund on an Ironman race if say, you're injured and can't take part?

yes, normally you get a % back, depending on when you pull out.

it will vary from IM to IM

a lot of the European ones allow you to buy a low cost insurance policy when you enter, which covers you for withdrawal issues. afaik, IMUK and IMW don't offer this but do offer a scaled rebate according to date but the closer to the event you get, the less you get back.

always best check the entry process first. you might also be covered under a sports insurance policy (always best to have for big events to cover travel hassles as well) for injury withdrawal but I guess there are procedures you would need to follow to ensure costs are recovered.

FB - the map has BOTH the swim and the run, the swim in black, the run through Tenby in Red.

All set out in the T&Cs when you apply. 75% back if pull out by 11 April then dropping each month. Can't remeber exactly what was on screen but I think it was still 50% back if you pulled out by 11 June.

Thats a point... when should we start thinking about accomodation? I was thinking about staying in a static caravan... I imagine there could be a good atmosphere around the camp sites

there's a contact name and e-mail address on the website for accomodation questions - get in touch to see what arrangements they are making. there's a Haven camp site within 5 mins of race HQ - has static carvans and a camping/mobile van area- unless IMW suggest elsewhere we'll be on there in our motorhome
