You lot with your sunny Sundays! Mist/fog here. Still we got the train to West Kirby - on the River Dee and walked home round the coast of the peninsula. There is a 30 odd mile circular walk, so thats 1/3 of it done. To begin with it was very misty - couldn't see Wales or the islands just offshore. Later it lifted a bit. Pretty cold though ...

(((Sluggie))) and(((Nog's and Penny's knees))) and ((((Tubs))) who last I heard was stuck here in the fog. I do hope you get sorted soon.

Slugs, the turbo is so boring but, today, due to a diary malfunction I managed to get out for a short road ride.  It was glorious.

Again Slugs, I hope your gastropub thingy works out.  The 'scenic' route is to be avoided if possible.image

    Evening

Just floating in and out - will just add ditto to everyone's erudite comments above me (and yes I did read back image

Left home at 7am - cycled to 1/2 mara venue, marshaled for ever, cycled home and back by about 4pm..........that's an awful lot of fresh air for February........

I do enjoy marshaling and can't imagine not doing it.........and anyway I "owe" it for all the times I've raced in the past but TBH even if I didn't I'd still do it imageimage

Interestingly at the finish they were doing beetroot juice........I haven't tried mine yet but other ones I've tried in the past have been yummy imageimageimage

Tomorrow......hmmmmmmmm........going to try not to think about it more right now

Sweet dreams all and happy week's to come image

How many years is it now?! 11? I wonder what we've all managed to achieve in those 11 years?! For me:

    • 3 10ks, 44 mins off PB
    • 4 half marathons,  34 mins off PB
    • 2 marathons (I just put one at first - how did I forget the other one?!), 30 mins off PB
    • learned to swim
    • 2 triathlons
    • 39 parkruns with times from 43.23 down to 30.07 (although my first wasn't my slowest)
    • 1 PhD
    • 2 boyfriends (one now sadly dead, although that wasn't my fault!!)
    • 2 house moves
    • 1 sister dragged into several races
    • 1 mother dragged into several other races
    • several other unfit family members 'encouraged' to do Race for Life

Love looking back, makes me feel like I've actually done something with my life image

What crafty psychology, XB! image Yeah, they said we would never stick together but look at us now! image

Actually, look at Daffs, cos she has a list of brilliant accomplishments that all the rest of us can hide behind!! Stonkingly well everythinged, Daffers! imageimage

I've read back but I'm in a hurry and not taking much in so...

Sluggie, how nice that you saw SB, and for a happy(ish) occasion with his cousin. I didn't realise you had to be 'scoped' image Hope the gastroscope does whatever they need to do...

Nogs, bet it felt brilliant to be out on the bike in the open air again! Hooray!!!

Podds, that is a LOT of fresh air for Feb, and I still think you're bliddy good to do all that marshalling.

Pippi, seaside mist can feel really chill. Bet you were happy to sit down with a nice cup of tea when you got home!

((Yums))) Teenage boys are never easy. Some are aggressive, some are withdrawn, some are always faffing off, some take it all too seriously, some won't shut up, some won't talk to you at all.....it's just a difficult age for them and so for us mums. Hope the college can make some helpful suggestions. xxx

It's grey and cool here but no longer bitter, so Monty and I had a nice 5 mile walk by the side of the nature reserve. He is now totally flaked, bless! But there are still piles of stuff I have to do and with C2 and C3 both home for dinner I need to get it done so I can start manufacturing industrial quantities of food!! xx

    Afternoon,

image Yes, Happy Birthday to us image image 11 years eh? 11 years ago I never thought I would ever be a 'runner' but I started some months later. 'Ran' my only mara in 2006 but did a fair few halves and 10miles. In that time my lovely SB has gone from a troubled 18 year old into a mature man of lamost 29. MS is nearing retirement age and I had a 'surprise' retirement due to the exploded disc that changed my life. Other members of the WAISTerlounge have seen weddings, divorces and other momentous events.I wonder what the next 11 years will bring?

Nggy, I'm glad that you were able to get out on the road yesterday, so much nicer than the turbot.

(((Yumms))) as I said above, time does work its wonders on our teenage boys - but it's no fun for anyone just now.

(((Tubs))) I hope you are no longer fog-bound.

Well, my gastroscope is now going to be done tomorrow afternoon. My iron stores keep dropping, in a way they had not done since before my hysterectomy (about 16 years ago). It's possible that I am leaking blood from somewhere in my gut, made more likely by the anti-inflammatory drugs that I have taken continuously for nearly 5 years. If they don't find anything in the upper bit, they will probably want to get the periscope out for the lower bit image. I should get the results before I leave tomorrow.

    (((WIN)))

    WAIST well xxx

One of the party cant go now so we had a spare ticket (no, none of you lot) and Helena from the yard (thats not her stage name) is able to get a last minute babysitter so that works out well

11 years eh ?  Blimey, where did all that time go from the early days through to the Trail Plus days through to the Startford Tri and JW Ultra days ...you guys were all witnesses to my accidental marathon and my first Ironman, still going !!!

woohoo and a happy birthday WAISters image I haven't been around for the full sentence -just looked at my race log - I said hello to you lot in 2006 as a race virgin - I've since done 54 running races including 16 marathons, plus 4 triathlons and 4 aquathlons image

had a few days off running due to a koffancold, and I can't get Jantastic to work now!

oh and I've signed up for an ultra (just 30 miles)  as a birthday present in September - gah! I blame Meldy!

  • Options

I've been around since near the beginning having never run a race then, and only started running a few months earlier. You were just what I needed.

Since then I've stopped and started a few times, done half-marathons, got one Masters degree and (I hope) soon to get the second. Had a troubled teenager who has now also got an MA and has turned into a mostly lovely young woman. We've been on exotic holidays for significant wedding anniversaries and birthdays. I've met strange people off the internet in real life a few times! I've also been to Stratford on Avon a few times! and done a triatholon. I've watched a few of you in marathons.

I think I'm not only fitter, I'm a bit more confident that I can do things that I didn't expect. I'm also rather pleased that Pippette is too - I remember thinking in the early days that at least she might think that if her mother could start running, maybe anything is possible! (jsut as long as she doesn't beat me in Liverpool half ... she will ....)

M....eldy couldn't run a tap without getting injured when I first knew her and look at her now image

Off to school this morning. Seems no1 has been falling asleep in study periods. I pulled the plug on the internet at 10.30 last night.

    Morning

I too missed the birthday celebrations - my invite must have been lost in the post!? Think I joined at the same time as Jenni Farty pants. I have attempted to make her look good by always under performing. I think I'm doing OK, I've done a race or two and have managed a few runs this year. I am thinking of an ultra

as a really unlikely ever ever to happen event image

(((((((those experiencing periscopes and other medical intrusions))))))

Hope school meeting goes OK Yums

FC had first day at school yesterday in a shiny new blazer and everything. She was very excited. It all seemed to go well and she will go from part time to full time later this week. I too am on a steep learning curve - how long can it take to get showered and ready in the morning? How do you do French braids? Why on earth would anyone want fake eyelashes? I am traversing strange and foreign lands and I feel for FC who must wonder how clueless we are!

Happy Tuesday one and all - it's my Mum's birthday today - she's really old

Morning all. What a lot of inspiring stories this place has generated over the last years, certainly of running victories of all sorts but also surviving teenage years, ups and downs of married and unmarried life, some major events like births and deaths. And here we still are.

((((((((Sluggie))))) hope things go well today, quick and not uncomfortable, and that they find something expected that they can fix easily. xxxxx

Yums, good luck with the school. At least you can comfort yourself with the knowledge that teens falling asleep in study periods is normal. Apparently their body clocks make them natural night owls, and it's hard for them to wake up at our normal hours.

Spence, Dotty's haircut sounds like an excellent idea. I sometimes wonder if I should cut some of Monty's hair (and in fact I have but the long flags near his bottom for, um, hygenic reasons) but I don't think he'd look right shorn.

Pippi, you really have accomplished so much since we've known you--and Pipette too. Hats off to you!

JFF, you must by now be one of our champion racers. And what I admire even more is the fact that you do it whilst juggling a family and a heavy job. I honestly don't know how you fit it all in!

Oh yes, Meldy, we remember your accidental marathon. Only you...! image Also the interesting German concept of what your name is image Hope you enjoy the Cirque, it should be quite spectacular. You could always keep an eye out in case they are in the market for a trapeze artist--would give Daffs that little push she's been looking for image

All 5 of us are going to the theatre tonight to see a new play that is a satire on the banking crisis. It's attracted a lot of attention here and is apparently very funny but also very pointed. Special marks to C1 because it will be in idiomatic Dutch, which she and I will find more challenging than the others will. Happy days all

    Morning All

11 years eh?  Yes a lot has happened in that time to many of us but as Yums said I think the nicest thing is the friendships formed between those who have stuck around imageimage

Lots of achievements both personal, familial and sporting.......and we're all so much greyer and theoretically wiser for the experiences............. image

I too have happy memories of Trailplus and Stratty events and also witnessed "live" the accidental marathon.....in fact for a price I'm pretty sure I've got some photos somewhere..........

DL - I can imagine the FC morning situation - I am the world's slowest person in the shower but at the gym in the time it takes me to get undressed, shower, wash my hair, get dressed, and leave there are a couple of young girls who having started  on their faces before I get into the changing room are still doing them as I leave...........and they really don't look much different for a good half hour's work!!!!

Good luck Sluggy - will be vibing for you

Yums - sounds like a plan re the internet cutting.....it's way too easy particularly with all the games and Fakebook and the likes to get carried away with the inanities of life in the evening and before you know it, it's time to get up again!!

Right - best go and do something constructive with my day.........failed miserably to get up and swim this morning image

Enjoy CdS Melds if I don't see you before you go image  I imagine it will be fab

Good luck at school Yums. I know how No1 feels today... image

Glad FC enjoyed yesterday DL image Must be very weird going into a new school at that age, without all the other stuff that must have happened in her life. Good on her for making a good go of it.

(and I never understood false eyelashes either!) image

Love reading what you've all done in the last 11 years image 54 races Jenni?! image Mind you, I'd never expect anything else from you image

Funny how many of us seemed to post before we started running! image

Someone's brought coffee and bannoffie cakes into work today - because it's Tuesday, and February image Damn fine reasons image Plenty left if you'd like a bit (although the rate I'm going it won't be round for long!)

Yes, it’s nice to be reminded of how we have developed over the years. Ups and downs and downs and ups, all life happens here.

Since our birth I’ve done 7 marathons, countless half maras and even more 10ks, several sprint Tri’s and some biking challenges.

I’ve also given birth to another 6 grandchildren (I already had 2) and another on the starting blocks as we speak. He should be here by this time next week with luck.

It’ll be 11 years next month since Kira died, I will never forget the wonderful care and support here and on other threads. I have to say that this event took me places in life I never thought I would go, much of it in a positive way I must add.

A BSc an MSc and a retirement all figure in those years. Daffs is right it does the heart good to look back and see where we have come.

Tuesday and February just HAS to be celebrated, and how better than with Banoffee cake - save me some, I’ll be there in a bit image
