rich, something wanted to ask you. not sas related afraid - did you plan on just doing one ironman and leave it at that (that being a goal forfilled), or did you plan to move on from it into other endurance events? How did you see yourself moving on once the first one was out of the way?
No Daz. I've got two more planned this year. I want to do Lanzarote in May as it is arguably the toughest in the world, so that makes it a challenge in itself. I'm then doing Florida which is the main focus of my year to see just how fast I'm capable of. In Zurich last year I was delighted just to finish, but I want to try and hold it together better on the run this time.
As for moving into other endurance stuff, i've always had half an eye on adventure racing, but having spent (and still spending!) a fortune on tri stuff I think I'll stick with that for a while.
Long term goal is to make the 2005 Age Group team for the World Champs as i'll be into 40-45 by then.
One event you might be interested in with your artic sas shananigans coming up is one I heard a colleague mention (her bfriend has done it a few times). I think it's based in Norway and involves a considerable (prob doub ironman equiz) number of miles x-country ski-ing, running and mountain biking (i think). Damn my memory, forgotten the name!
I've thought before I'd love to work up to competing in the eco-challenge but, like you say, a lot of money (and a few courses and corporate nudging) involved.
Q/ You buy a trisuit..its very tight (so unless you've got a good body you look like a prat). do you go down to your local pool to try it out....if so does everyone look at you as if your a nutter...?
Sorry this is way off thread...but when I saw the trisuit in the Aldi leaflet I thought...if I wore that i'd look like a prat.
no i didnt call her a lard arse guzzle-bucket. said she "has a bit of puppy fat". she has cheeks that would make a chipmonk jealous. and she knows it cos she told us at TCR.
No it wasn't, stop being silly! It was some wally on a tri forum who's never heard of Jodie Swallow and thinks that because she's a size 12 (at a push) and has a round face she can't be an athlete.
Rich - by the time you buy all those powermeters, natural light boxes, carbon winter training wheels, yada, yada, I reckon it's a monthly budget for 220 mag.
rich i did the 10k. i knew jodie was being interviewed from the room overlooking the race track so i thought id try and dazzle her with my bright yellow hair while running around the park, blind her, then usher her into a taxi and take her own as my sex slave but no, it didnt work. got messy and somethign about "last man on earth"...?

I like that
that's what I'll call it.
I just have to shift some of my puppy fat around my middle, though it'll probably go anyway when I grow up.

As an aside : I loved the review of a campag 10 speed sprocket in this months 220mag.
'And for when it gets hilly - you can use the 21 and 23 sprocket'
Ya don't say ?
Is it me or does 220 seem particularly kit-loving ? If you read that mag you'd think you needed to spend 10 grand to compete.
(when in actual fact it's only about 6 grand)
well ya need something to hang on to... right?
liked the new aldi tri-suit shown in 220.....a massive cost at £9.99 with all the trimmings!! the other brands should be disgusted with themselves!
