Couldn't resist finding out (I just love spending other people's money), so just spoke to Evans Cycles who, as expected, quoted £30 to upgrade the rear mech to XT. So you're £70 under budget... how many tutu's does that buy?
Dont worry candy, I ride on roads too, but not on one of those thin wheeled shopping trolleys with narrow handlebars.
I like lycra too for running but can no way swap my baggies on a bike for fear that I might start to change. Next it will be Look spd's and leg wax, aaaaa.
Sounds like you gonna get a good bike for your money Will, with hydraulic discs to boot. And enough money to buy a Tutu - just make sure they match your lycra cycling shorts underneath.
Not even the racing whippets can dis full bouncers now that they have come on so much. I think there is no comparison if you can afford the extra dosh. I just bought a bathroom suite when I should've bought a Specialized Enduro Expert so this thread is now depressing me.
Im a lot heavyer than a racining whipet - Full bouncers are not much fun at my weight - you end up stiffening up the rear so much you may as well of har a hard tail
as Mm says I ain't no whippet WW - 105kg or therabouts - and I ride a Marin Mt Vision full boinger with a Fox rear air shock. have just uprated it to the one with lockout to help on the climbs where I was bouncing a lot with my weight before. I run it at about 180psi so the only thing you need to be careful with is blowing the seals on a big hit - although my original one lasted 4 years or so....
My understanding is that, as good as the technology on the new full-sus bikes may be, on WW's budget, you are still compromising. Yes, there are some amazing full-sus bikes out there, but you need to spend double what WW has in mind, so I'd stick with a trusty hard-tail where you can get some excellent value for money.
don't disagree there rocks - decent full bouncers will start at about £1500 otherwise they will be either too heavy or the kit won't be up to the task.....

and how lovely you looked
i rode my sisters expensive XC full susser one time, took a bit of getting used to and even then wasn't in love with it.
sussers require a diff pedalling dynamic... can't really 'sort it' just out for a quick spin....
but when you get used to it...
oh boy!!!
says it all really - even if wearing a tutu!!

go take yer bath to the nearest jump park!!!
Have some fun!!!
Get a stronger weighted (rated) spring and that need not be the case....
FB ain't no XC whippet boy (I'm sure he won't mind me saying that!), and he does ok on the boinging front!
it does 180mph
and it's suspension is pretty hi-tech even by mountain bike standards
nuff said
I had an NC30 and the fairing decided to leave me at 135mph so i thought it was time to get rid.
I drive like a tit now in my mrk 4 vw golf instead.
the new R1 is rather sexy isnt it,
thats what the roads/tracks are for - not poncing around in lycra pretending you're in the TDF.
What are you buying then WW, the GT now, or is it still the Kona?
Me, my bathroom suite is much more exciting than a Spesh full-bouncer and I am sooooooo glad I spent the money wisely (hmph!).
G - still havent decided - i always liked GTs but the Kona gets some great reports /
have you still got the sidecar fitted?
This really is the best yet, you know, chaps.
