A year to train - the bike and the run aren't a prob (well done on separate weeks - obvioulsy it's a HUGE problem to do them on the same day - but its workable.)
So it's just the swimmy thing. And a Lake seems preferable to a choppy sea - even if there are cocodriles around...
cougie - swimming 2.4 miles is easy, if you aren't that worried about time
i'm the world's worse swimmer but i can do it in about 1.35-1.40 (being completely fresh for the bike)... the cut off is 2.20, nobody can fail to do that
its good for morale being a much stronger cyclist than a swimmer anyway, as you get to overtake everybody on the bike
get some lessons. you might spend the first month or so clinging onto the sides and choking, but then it will come in a flash
if you start now, and get lessons, you'll easily be sub 1.20 by next july (i've tracked down a coach at last so hopefully i'll be less cack by then, but i've not started yet as there's no point messing with my style before Austria)
Seriously though, having entered Florida for later in the year I am going to leave North America alone next year.
Waiting to see if UK goes full, which I think it will, although I thought that last year as well.
Also hoping the rumours are true about France moving to Nice as I love them there French hills. If not, will probably do Frankfurt, great crowds and easy to get to.
Jose, yes it was the hardest, but i've only done two so there's not much to compare against. Apparently though, Hawaii and Lanzarote are the hardest on the circuit and the times seem to bear that out.
France is moving to Nice? So much has changed since I did Geography A-level...
And if someone could repeat to me at regular intervals, "you might spend the first month or so clinging onto the sides and choking, but then it will come in a flash", that would be a great help, thank you.
woo hoo if rich doesn't go, and cougie doesn't bother taking swim lessons, and monique doesn't go or doesn't spend much time on the bike, and MM neglects his long training, and nobody fast like Daz signs up, then i might win the forum trophy!!!!

err Might, ill be hopefully a lot quicker next year..........
Concerning swimming, with a bit of hard work and some lessons you can become a competant swimmer in 6 months. I could just about do 1 length front crawl 9 months ago and could knock out a 1500m in around 30mins now. In that time I also lost 3 months training due to a shoulder injury.
Id like to think ill have 1500m down to 25mins by the end of this year.
OK Candy you got me - I am thinking about something this daft for 2005 - in fact if my kness etc don't break a full IM is next years goal. Funds will probably restrict me to less exotic locations than the US tho.. Anyone else scared of running a marathon after the fun (??) bits - I've never run for more than 2 and 1/2 hours before never mind run a marathon, and as for doing it after a hefty bike ride....

my dear friendly orange-utang, I have perfectly realised already, that I am not ready for a full IM. (not now, not in 2005).
I guess IM-UK first year will be full in 25 minutes. Nice could be nice though if they do a half.
how did I slip into the defo category?
I do like the idea of a forum IM outing - but do I want to lose my m-dot virginity in a placid lake?
mmm
must ponder
