Great Bentley. Has the advantage of being flat!!! Altho' will have to try not to get too hung up on times like I did in Sunday's race. Can't believe how upset I allowed myself to get about not doing as well as I'd hoped. Got to keep in mind where I was only a few weeks ago - barely running!!
((Kazzahhh)) That's tough. I used to beat myself up when I didn't get the time I wanted but I'm a little more generous with myself these days when I set my targets and over the longer events I'm just glad to finish!
It would appear to have all gone quiet on the thread so just to get your juices flowing here are a couple of warm up races you might consider for a spring marathon or BH itself. The Thanet 20 is run on 4th March and is a beautiful coastal run through Ramsgate and Broadstairs. Forget the RW comment about cabbage fields, you only see one on the route. As usual the Thanet Roadrunner event will be impeccably organised. It is a fabulous race (unless, of course, the wind blows!) The second race is in September and is another TRAC event and is called the Quicksand 15. It is run entirely on the beach, over rocks and seaweed, therefore it is not easy. However again it is fantastic (unless the wind blows) and a brilliant prep for BH. The run leaves Margate for Broadstairs and then returns to Margate, as a Ramsgate FC fan it is the only time I go to Margate. When you are planning your prep races give them a thought, you won't be disappointed, I promise.
I'm saying cheerio, I've cancelled my subscription. I've been told I probably have an abnormal electrical impulse in my heart that makes it beat too fast. It's ok to run but due to the fact that I get exhausted the most I'll probably manage is a gentle jog, I'm hoping to build back up to 5 miles but may have to settle with 3. I can take medication but a side effect is tiredness, doesn't seem a lot of point. I was given medication a few months ago and lost the central vision in one eye and all sensation in my arm, only for 5 minutes but it was scarey, so as you can guess, I'm not too keen to try anything at the moment. Good luck to you all, when you don't fancy going out for a run just get your shoes on and be thankful that you can!
the ones that are likely to make you tired are beta blockers
all drugs have potential side effects it can be a case of trial and error it may also be possible to do a small electrical procedure on the heart to stop it going too fast like this
have you got supraventricular tachycardia or atrial fibrillation
It's something called Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia. I saw a specialist who deals in elctro-phsiology (?) is that right? Anyway, he sent me off with loads of information to "think about it". I'm finding that deciding not to want to do a marathon is helping me deal with stuff and I've reigned in my goals. Maybe once I get back out there things will change but he told me I've got it for life and deal with it.
