Hi all. I am contemplating doing the Marlow half. I did the Silvertsone back in March but having just done the Wooburn 10k with that awful hill I am a tad worried about the Marlow Hill. Also although I do run atleast 13 miles a week at present do you think have I left it too late to train for another half?
I did the Wooburn 10K too. I believe one difference is that in that race we had a 65m climb in one go. The Wycombe half doesn't go straight up Marlow hill - I only discovered that after I started this thread. It seems to climb about 85m but not as relentless. My hope is that the initial climb won't be any worse than the Wooburn 10k overall. Just keep to a sustainable speed on the way up. You should make up most of the time on the way down.
Have a look at www.goodrunguide.co.uk for maps+profiles of both of these races.
Meldy my long runs at present are 7 usually twice a week. My running partner who, like me used to want to add on has stopped running and I now run with some other runners who do not want to run any further. When I trained for the HM Silverstone I got up to 9 miles once a week and 2 10k's on 2 other days. The 9 miles was from Wooburn through Bournend up to the Marlow RAB and back, not a particuarly pleasant run so if anyone has any ideas for better runs I would appreciate hearing about them.
I have checked out the details on the Windsor to Marlow run and may do that one.
So hows the training going for everyone, this thread has gone quite, so you must all be training hard.
I ran the Midsummer Monro last Saturday the hardest 1/2 in britain, or so they claim. Some of the hills on the run made Marlow hill look like an undulation. That doesn't mean I'll find it any easier going up Marlow hill. Just I've had a bit of practice
Hi cyber im looking forward to doing this one. Im still a bit sore from the munro myself. The first hill at wycombe will be a piece of cake, wont it. LOL.
the training has been ok with me, nothing spectacular but gradually improving. My long Saturday run is now at the full distance. I did run out of water after 10miles last weekend and was very tempted to grab a bottle of water off a kid that I went past but I doubt that I'd be able to outrun him!
I don't know if anyone else has had problem with hayfever this year but it's the first time I've had the symptoms and they do detract from the fun of running a bit.
My training is still in the early phases to contemplate a 1/2 marathon (managed to complete the Thame 10K last week) but I was thinking of taking some photos of the race as a new commercial venture. How do people feel about race photos in general:
1) Does anyone want race photos? 2) Where is the best position to take a photo (finish, mid-race, scenic backdrop, yop of Marlow Hill, ...) 3) Digital or hardcopy output preferred? 4) Ideal features of a web-based browse/order facility? 5) What is the ideal and maximum price you would want to pay for a digital copy and 7x5 print?
Tomorrow I'm running Bewl 15. Ran the first two legs of the South Downs Marathon Relay a couple of weeks ago and a lap and a half of Richmond Park in the rain last week so I'm happy with the distance
Doubt I'll break 90 but I think I can be inside 1:35
True... maybe this race will have a safari feel to it, though we will need a dramatic change in the weather.
Having been thoroughly drenched on Saturday's long run, I think that I'm more suited to rain than a pleasant warm day. As long as it's not Berko half-marathon style rain.
BBC weather says that Sunday will be sunny and 20 degrees. A bit cooler than a couple of years ago when it was 30 degrees. Bring on that minor undulation!

Marlow half is a tad lumpy
what are your long runs at the moment?

All the best on the day!
Marlow's the third hardest 1/2 I've run. And the 2 tough challenges I've run are no ordinary 1/2's

16 days to go...

Appreciate any feedback you can provide.

That might come back to haunt me!
