Wardi - Nice result especially when you weren't expecting it!
Pammie - Wise move. Lots of nasty colds around at the mo. My daughter has a stinker. Don't think the weather helps somehow.
flyaway - I did wonder if you were with the forces when you mentioned Aldershot. I was in the Army for 5 years and married a soldier so I have been in lots of married quarters - some really lovely - some best forgotten:)
Just had a really positive run. This is my third week of putting some pace into my runs after about 5 months of base building. Two miles warm up then decided to do the mile repeats. Did 3 with less than two mins recovery as didn't seem to need it. All around the 7 minute mile give or take a few seconds. V pleased especially as windy again today and as always an undulating route. The best bit is I feel I could go out and do it all again!
Wardi - that's a super performance in a well controlled race. Sometimes it feels like being torn between being overjoyed at an unexpectedly good race and the thought that an extra 1 sec / mile would have meant a pb.
Sorry to read about so many injuries. Here's a question - what % of our running woes can be said to be self-inflicted - ie running too much, too fast, not looking after stretching, hyrdation etc. I count myself lucky in that I think all my running problems have been caused by me over reaching.
SiT - would there be any mileage (sorry:-)) in maybe doing one run per day to get your 70mpw then getting on a x-trainer or gym bike for your 2nd 30 min or so session. I know it's not your preferred choice but it may be the only way to get the best out of yourself.
Re. the 150s and the metatarsal SF, could this have been down to the lacing on them? I remember having a bad foot pain in Dec of 2004 which nearly made me have a rest day. However an alteration in the lacing of them sorted it. They tend to be very tight across the top of the foot.
Peter G - is that the race which goes down the bottom of our street tonight? We'll be watching.
Scobos - 26 days is a long time. When you are back into training would you alter anything or are you just putting this injury down to fate rather than anything specific in your running?
My 2006 injury followed a complete lack of variety in 2005 and not taking care of a developing groin / hip / back complaint. I still feel it now (and more so in the last week) so every good paced run for me now is a bonus and keeping me ahead of the big bad injury beast.
Oh yes, having been away for a week I've noted Tom's not posted for a few days. Has he gone down to SW19 to collect up all the used balls to bust his ass on?
IMA peeps - good luck and I will do some tracking at the weekend
I got a few minutes of fame today as the biggest of the local rags printed my whole Comrades article on a centre double page spread. Was probaly a slow news day, but nice to see it in print.
It prompted an email from local hot shot runner Ato Boldon (now retired, but once 3rd fastest in the world at 100/200m), I shall print and frame it!
Think I can muster up enough energy for a swim tonight...
Trinni: I still remember the first time I saw anything I'd written published. It was in a heavy metal magazine and I made my Mum go into her local newsagents to look it up! (I told her she didnt have to actualy buy the magazine though!!). The novelty very quickly wears off (although I was equally proud of my first interview, first photographs and subsequently first scientific paper!)...but you should be framing your article, not the email!!
BR: You know how it is - the emotion of winning a major title for the honour of my corporation; I clean forgot to stop my watch. Besides, championship races are notoriously tactical, I go for times at the Grand Prixs.
Results back from hospital already (a blessing here rather than UK at times like this).
I have unexpected news!!!! Have managed to get two separate stress fractures on the left tibia which at least explains the bloody pain but looks like we have caught them quite early so may be able to get away with 4 weeks complete rest and 1.5 weeks already over.
Many thanks for the congrats. A steady 11.5 mile run home from work tonight. Arrived home to find a boxful of nice 14% Australian red on the doorstep. I can feel a thirst coming on. Also my now fiance managed a PB last night so we now have something to celebrate with (O:
Enjoy the moments of fame Trini!
Simon.. you have done very well to put a positive slant on a dour and puzzling situation. By now I think I would consider my bones to be made of dodgy materials! Hope you are right about the early diagnosis.
Nice racing Wardi - little worried about boxes of wine!! My husband has started buying boxes - so easy to do on the internet! Not so easy when you start feeling pain in the toe or the ankle - moderation is the key!! Bit of a pain in real terms - not being able to even walk properly doesn't do much for NYC training.
Congratulations to finance on her PB!
Sorry to hear about the stress fractures SiT - are you really lean? Maybe eat a little more of what you fancy - the body seems to be breaking down at your weakest point. Some people get sick - others injured. Have you tried easy miles and only running fast when you race?
AF - good luck with the 5k - you'll start to like them.
Trini - fantastic stuff - great to see your achievement in print and recognition from someone so famous it pretty neat. "Born to do it" - I love "Born to run".
Good luck to all those doing Ironman - hope the conditions are good.
What: 6 miles flat and easy with mates - feel like I have a cold coming on.
Some people have bloody bad manners - namely the place where I had the interview today. Done by 12.30 and waiting by the phone ever since. In some lines of work, you get a call saying you're successful but nothing if you're not, whereas in education, you get a call saying whether you were successful or not. I'm still waiting and had my evening ruined now. $%£^*%^ar*e!
My evening meal/catch up with a friend was cancelled at 5pm, so I thought, 'I know, I'll do that race that BR and hilly live near'. No phone call, so that idea was scrapped. Then I thought, 'never mind, I'll go to the gym instead'. No phone call, so that idea was also scrapped. Then I thought, 'maybe I could go for a quick 20mins trot'...... but, as you expected, no flaming phonecall!.
Started on a cider now, so p*ssed off and got a sore back from sitting around the house all afternoon. Bad manners!
Must be something about Barnsley schools, FL. For 2 separate interviews hilly had to wait all weekend. At another local secondary school they were way late letting her know.
You could take out a grievance. If you need any advice...:-)
The race near where we live seemed to have a stronger field tonight, including a good runner from Livingwell and a certain BAC female.
NR: Sorry to hear about the theft & subsequent inconvenience. I hope you didn't have many things of value, though I suspect the bag maybe of sentimental value - which would be a shame.
SiT: I'd like to view your gait. A lightweight shoe is not a magic-bullet. The analogy would be to put slicks on a high performance car but then it rains so the driver must learn new skills. Do you believe in "running through pain"? Good to hear that you're staying positive.
Wabo: Sciatica is a f***ing nightmare. I lost a whole year because of it. I was so depressed :-(
BR: Other then true accidents - aren't all injuries self-inflicted? My understanding is that good training stresses the body i.e. a form of minimal injury. When you rest/sleep the body grows back stronger and more able. Perhaps I've misunderstood.
Well Done, Wardi.
Ultratrini: A warhol moment :-)
FL: Rant away.
What: 30mins easy with some steady thrown in Why: Cut back mileage

What: 10 miles am / 4 miles pm
Why: base
Why: Work intervening
Spent all lunchtime working on an upgrade. Why do people plan these things and then leave me to it while they all go for their lunches?
Have a good day all
Dave
NR: Bad news about the handbag. You can't trust anyone these days
FL: Good luck with the interview
Wardi: Solid 10k. Well done.
Debating whether or not to do the Assemnbly League 5k at the Dome (or is it the 02?) tomorrow. Anyone else doing it?
What: 13.5m
Why: Mid-week, Medium-Long run
Last Hard: Friday
Last Rest: 7 days
Have a good one.
Wardi that sounds like a cracking race. Well done.
Peter - yes. Today's run was 2 laps round the course but carrying on into Cawthorne rather than up the track at 2.3 miles.
SiT - a real bummer
NR - you just can't trust people, grrrr
Wardi - nice 10k!
IMA peeps - good luck and I will do some tracking at the weekend

What: Rest
Why: easy week
last hard: Sunday
Have a great day
Trini: I remember Ato Boldon well - That's a claim to fame.
Slow Twitch
or
Socialist Target
for taking part in the corporate games:-)
Think I can muster up enough energy for a swim tonight...

Ato's quote and byline on his email is
"People who SAY it can't be done should not interrupt people who are doing it."
BORN TO DO IT!

Simon
NR - that's awful, I'd be fuming...
Wardi - congrats!
SiT - sounds nasty, fingers crossed it all heals quickly
What: 5.3 hilly miles steady
Why: run day
Last hard: yesterday's circuits
Last rest: Mon
Simon , so sorry about your news:-(
Miles makes smiles.
Progression
Enjoy the moments of fame Trini!

Or is it the pb fairy who delivers a bottle of wine to every person in the area who leaves a copy of the results on their doorstep:-)
Congrats to Ms Wardi:-) What time did she do?
SiT - glad you've caught it early.
Congratulations to finance on her PB!
