I want to have a go at an ultra next year, but most of the beginner friendly distances are a bit too early for me. Can anyone suggest a 50k in the latter part of the year (Sept/Oct)?
The JW would be fantastic, if only it had a few more hills!
No just joking - it was a great event this year and I'm looking forward to next year (M1/Lurker/Ed - sorry but there will be a JW 2008 whether you like it or not). Great organising team and very friendly.
Ed - if you're looking for a good one, come over to the Vaterland and do the Schwaebisch Alb 50km, at the end of October, it's absolutely NOT flat (Alb is German for Alp). I did the 25km there this year and found it very tough, but then I don't do well on hills. The finish of the 25km was up at the crest of another bliddy hill, when I got to it I was very thankful I was finishing instead of being only half-way there.

How far is Gatliff?
And isn't it a bit chilly in November???
50k/31miles, it can be chilly but it is always wet and muddy, they seem to pick a route each year to take in the best of Kent and Surrey's quagmires
Info here porky
Thanks Bilbo
sounds a bit hardcore for a first timer!
Think I'll stick with the JW (if it goes ahead?) and see how I get on there. I see the Gatliff takes on the day entries.
