Gremlins...

During a deep and meaningful discussion in the office the subject of Gremlins came up, and how to care for the mogwai.

So you're not supposed to get them wet - cos they multiply
don't expose them to sunlight - cos they die
and don't feed them after midnight - cos they turn into gremlins.

my question is - "when is 'after midnight'?"

see thing is, like it's 1045 at the moment, and that is technically "after midnight". BUT if i fed my mogwai (asuming I had one and hadn't shown it the sun) now, I'd not expect it to turn into a gremlin.

So how does it work? At what time "after midnight" is it safe to feed your mogwai?

I would have thought after sunrise, but I think you are right, I don't think it is specified.

    Can you ask it?
  • ent you seen any vampire movies?

At the first ray of sunlight.
  • yeah have pondered that before. when it's light ? the following twelve hours then it starts ticking as "before midnight" ?...

  • Snoop I was watching "The Lost Boys" the other weekend, so yeah i've seen my share of vampire movies. Hmm probably better not to discuss "Dracula's Dirty Daughters" which is as bad as it seems.

So, rather boringly we're going for between midnight and dawn are we?
  • Sounds like a more fun office to work in than mine !
  • If conversations about gemlins are a measure of "fun" then I really pity you Dave :~)
  • hey cns - seen 'From Dusk to Dawn' featuring Selma Hayek, Quentin Tarantino and George Clooney?

(forget Quentin Tarantino & George Clooney - just eyeball the puppies on S.H.!)

Oh, and "Vampyros Lesbos" is also worth a mention.
  • hmmm when would you rather go for cns ? quite how temporally confusing would you like to get coz i'm under-cafffeined and am sure i could offer something more esoteric. well i say sure...

oh and check out the joke thread.
  • "joke" as in the old get the condoms from teh car b4 shagging the mum-in-law-to-be thing? ancient.

Snoop - yeah saw "Dusk til Dawn" ages ago. Had no idea what it was about and right up until she turns into a vampire I had no idea what was going on. It's great, and yeah, nice puppies.
  • oh really. i've been very sheltered.
  • you're Missus was discussing puppies with me on the Beckenham 10k thread a couple of days ago - maybe she should have some input into this debate.
  • she's been in prison for the last two days, so talking about puppies would get her into even more trouble!
  • NIceNess - sorry was maybe being a bit harsh. I think I saw that story in a mag like FHm or Maxim passed off as True Story or something
  • Thanks CNS....

I was talking about "fun conversations" in the office. When you work for here there is not a lot of fun around !

Gremlins are a bit like Wombles with attitude, but smaller. Never argue with one! As for feeding after midnight, wait until it's breakfast time.
  • so do Wombles explode then Womble, when you put them into a microwave oven and turn it up to full heat?
  • No Snoop, you're confusing Wombles with microwave spaghetti bolognese
  • love the way my comment about sort of Mrs cns being in prison for two days has just passed everyone by :~)

Dave - glad I don't work in your office. This one is alright most of the time. Other than comign on here, we have internal internet chat-type stuff so we can sit n bitch about people to our heart's content. Makes it a lot more bearable, having an outlet like that :~)
  • yeah, but cns - we already know she works as a snout for the filth..
  • ah that's ok. she gets released at four this afternoon anyway

Snoop, Wombles are too big to fit in a microwave. Is this a dastardly plot to stop me beating all-comers in MW2004?
  • Hi Womble - did a Google search on MW2004 to see what it is, and it came up with:-

    • Predicted attenuators in bacteria - ... ilvD-2125903 /gene="ilvD" /note="ORFID:MW1977" /product="dihydroxy-acid dehydratase". MW2004-2164036 /gene="MW2004" /note="ORFID:MW2004. ...
    http://cmgm.stanford.edu/~merino/Staphylococcus_aureus_MW2/

So now we know - not!

ps what is MW2004 if it's not a predicted attenuator?
  • Eh?

Aren't gremins of eastern orientation? If so, do you watch out for midnight in blighty or in China?
  • WombleWomble ✭✭✭
    Moonwalk 2004....
  • Bax - nah we sorted that - it must be in the location you are cos otherwise it'd be too complicated. Mind you, how do they tell it was midnight? That's not like midday is it? I mean you can tell midday cos the sun is directly overhead. So how did this midnight thing come about? Surely these mogwai originated in China long before clocks did?

You can sort of understand the sun business. They die in direct sunlight, => mainly nocturnal. but the time thing? that's a bit odd innit?
  • Isnt staphylococcus an infection or bacteria ?
  • you got that from teh "Predicted attenuators in bacteria" bit didn't you?
  • Do Gremlins put their clocks forward?

I mean, if you feed a Gremlin at 00:30 tonight, that's 11:30 GMT. Perhaps we should wait till 1am to be safe.

And what if you import your Gremlin from a county on a different time zone?
  • Meant to say "country", not "county".

But you knew that didn't you?
