I was swapping a few emails with fb a couple of days ago regarding the London Marathon and we talked about how sometimes you get so far and then it all goes tits up....I was saying that the same happened to me at my last London in 2007....and then I wondered just how badly it had gone so I checked the split times....
Bear in mind I was aiming for sub 3.45 here are the first 40K
1st 10K - 50:51
2nd 10k - 51:53
3rd 10k - 52:33 (all good so far and well on target...then)
4th 10k - 1:06:58
I think you get the picture...I got cramps where I didn't realise I had places.....
So has anything similar happened to you?

Can't remember exact splits but first London Marathon went through halfway in about 2hr 20 and finished in 5hr 45!!!!
Had an absolute shocker - was really really hot, got all sort of cramp issues, had never used gels before, was still 16 and a half stones as playing rugby...basically not a good experience.
yeah but you're also a fair bit taller than me as well FB!
my marathon 2 weeks ago.
first 13.1 in 1:57
finished in 4:49
safe to say the wheels came of big time , but hey-ho
Not sure if i'll do another....
FB, just a bad day at the office.
Training had went well, weather was near perfect.
Was aiming for sub4 and was a minute ahead at halfway but starting to toil.
Kinda went over my ankle at mile 14 so stopped to check it was ok (it was, think my brain was starting to play games..) and then the legs said 'sod off!'
run/walked from 14 to 20 and by then was seriously p!ssed off and pretty much walked the last 10k. my pb was 4:26 so well off that !
Had a couple of days sulking but now back into it and training for a HIM same day as Bala
Any experience is only a waste if you dont learn from it
Was hoping/expecting 4:45 - 5:00 based on recent times for a 1/2 of between 1:57 and 2:10.
First half: 2:32:09
Second half: 3:21:01
Total 5:53:10
Can largely be summarised by 'Ran the 1st half, walked the second'.
Apparently walking is slower than running.
Runner no 26021 if you want the full splits.
1st half 2hrs19
2nd half 3hrs04
total 5hrs23.
alot of things went wrong in the 2nd half but the main problem was nowhere near enough volume in my training.
