I love gadgets and have quite a lot of them. I'm adding a new gadget to my stable of gadgets. My other half is buying me a Tacx iMagic Turbo Trainer this weekend for my birthday. It's supposed to let you do some virtual rides etc. There are some VERY mixed reviews on it, particularly in relation to the software but those who like it, really love it. It's older brother the Fortius seems a bit better but it's about 250 Euros more expensive and the main difference seems to be that it allows you climb steeper hills but there are ways around that on the iMagic by adjusting the gearing. IF (and that's a big IF) I've understood all the websites, you can use the (very buggy) TTS software to download GPS courses to it and view on Google earth and it will simulate the terrain for you in terms of slope etc. I'm hoping if that proves to be true that I might be able to get a version of the Regensburg bike ride working on it. Has anyone done anything like this before?
spot the project manager - I am just sorting things out early...
I assume the preferred option is to fly to Munich (lufthansa from heathrow), then
* car hire, (expensive, hassle of parking it etc etc, but easy biketransport) * airportliner shuttle, (25-35 euro per person each way) - very easy, not sure if they take bikes..... a little expensive, * bus from munich airport to freising then train to regensburg. (cheap, but a hassle carting bike bags around).
pair up with someone else and drive there, it's Autobahn almost all the way. I'm sure someone can provide you with an estimate of costs - I know FB and Petal drove to Roth in their camper, and Artful Hen drove her car, so did Pkim from Belgium. Saves the hassle of carting all your gear, bike, shoes, helmet, wetsuit, clothes, etc. by hand.
Roth took about 12 hrs to drive to from Calais in our motorhome cruising at 70mph - Regensburg is about 100km further on I believe - BUT that time did include a 3hr delay on the motorway due to a crash. In a car it would take 7/8hrs to Regensburg I reckon if no holdups
easy peasy drive as well as it's autobahn all the way with no toll charges
oh goody - my 2 males will be ecstatic! Nemo is a black German Shepherd, 3 years old, 36kg, Oz is a White Shepherd, 8 years old, 42kg, and just LURVES females (he's on the left in my avatar, but was only 14 weeks old in that pic). Both very friendly to smaller, female dogs, except when it comes to sticks - then it's no holds barred as far as Ozzy's concerned, all toys belong to him especially when swimming.

Hi Orca. I have no idea what you're talking about - but good luck it sounds interesting.
Are you still grumpy with me for making you do Regensburg?
