Hi everybody. Thought I would get the ball rolling on this one. You won't catch me doing it but i have marshalled it a number of times and those who do it always seem to come back for more, so why not give it a go.
Oh I had the most fun when I did this last year! Never having run that far b4 - let alone clambering up cliff tops! I would recommend it to anyone - leave your Garmin behind and just enjoy the day.
and if you don't beat the tide there will be no need to renew your subscription! Bonus.
The very same could be said for the 'Cross-Bay Challenge' that crosses Morecambe Bay (from Flookburgh, Cumbria - to - Hest Bank/Morecambe, Lancashire), it was certainly an experience
Now that could be a worrying race, if you're daft enough to go off-course!!
It's just a pity that this one is too far south to even consider attending
I can believe it, very dangerous territory up that way. At least our course you are always a few yards from safety. This is a beautiful part of the country, why not come down and make a weekend of it, the natives are ever so friendly!
I was looking forward to this...but I've just discovered it's been brought forward to September and clashes with the Folkestone Half, which I've already entered thinking the Quicksand would be on a Saturday morning in October (like last year).
It's a great event that deserves a much bigger field, which the new date will hopefully achieve.
It comes highly recommended and I definitely want to run it again and try to break 2 hours.
David its a shame but the only date in October that worked with the tides clashed with the kite festival which last time caused extra hassle for us - hopefully next year time and tide will work better!
I was going to do the Folkestone Half and keep up my record of having done all of them, but I have gone the other way from David, so I shall be sampling the Quicksand 15 for the first time (the night after our club outing to Shepherd Neame).
As the race takes in all sorts of terrain, any recommendations for footwear?
I've often wondered what would happen if I actually entered as "Sir Cowarde de Custarde"; should I try it with someone who knows the truth, or someone who has never met me?
We will be taking entries on the day Slug. If you message me your email address I'll forward race info to you so you know where to go if you haven't done it before.
Thanks. I found the mail address on the Thanet RR site and got the details mailed. I hope to be there. Looks like it could be a sunny, if very windy, day.
Well done to everyone who ran/marshalled today - it was certainly a toughie and you definitely had to beat the tide (which came in about 30 minutes quicker than it should due to the onshore gale!)
CdeC - you've made it personalised onto the results..... well done today everyone, I had a run to my marshall spot and a run home afterwards, but am so glad I wasn't racing it. Still, maybe next year.....
Thanks to all at Thanet for another well-organised event. My especial thanks to all of the marshals; it was tough running, but at least we were able to generate some sort of warmth - even if I did come home and turn the central heating on and leap into a piping hot bath to warm up.
Sharon,
Entry forms are now available via our club website for the Turkey run, when it will be my turn to stand and shiver in a howling gale!
I did notice that it was a tad windy in places, but a great course. Really interesting, took the mind off the distance and the miles flew by. I much prefer these local, club run events to the massive, commercial packed races. I couldn't fault the organization in any respect. The marshalls are all heros.
Well done Thanet. Hopefully next year you'll be luckier with the weather and get a few more out.

I remember the kite festival,so I see why you didn't want it on the same day again !
Best of luck with the new date and I hope you get a great turnout this year, which Quicksand richly deserves.

Is the race full or will you be taking entries on the day ?
Cheers

Thanks for the kind feedback peeps - it is a unique event and it would be great to be able to have a much larger field - spread the word!
Sir CdC have printed off some forms to take along tonight - we'll all enter this week hopefully.
