I am also looking forward to this event. will be good to see what the route is going to be. hoping not too many hills as it looks like it will be my first compeitive race of the year.
Have also entered this, the route is now on the KP events website, looks a fairly flat course (had a little drive around it yesterday), bit of a climb up to Whittington barracks but this is in the first 3 miles when people should be fresh, then it's ok afterwards, bit dubious about the train line crossing just before Fradley, hoping that this is very well marshalled, mind you the line shouldn't be too busy on a Sunday.
Beavis - I agree about the train crossing. I was out running down there a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday morning and saw a train. If that happens on race day they'll be a riot!
Looks like the train station is pretty close to the start/finish, is this considered the best way to get there? Any advice most appreciated! Big race for me as I pulled my calf on the Shakespeare half last week, hoping to make my comeback here!
Buggerlugs, there is parking at the start and a free bus service from the finish back to the cars, the route rises from about 1 to 3 miles and then it's fairly flat for the rest of the race. Most info can be found on the KPEvents website.
All, went and 'ran' the route yesterday as part of my long Sunday run, (18 miles in total)...... and had to wait at the train crossing while a train came down the line!
A toss-up between this and Uttoxeter Half on same day, but was probably going to enter this as a new race/course. Won't be entering now - in all probability will miss the trains, but not gonna chance it.
Had a look at the route. The level crossing is north of Lichfield TV Station. This line is used only very rarely, usually when their are diversions for engineering work between Water Orton & Tamworth. I'll check when I'm at work whether this is the case. I think it's quite likely though that they planned it when there would be no trains running. Unless of course they used the same organisers who did the Birmingham 1/2M.
I met Paul from KP Events this morning. I am one of a 19 parent team running to raise funds for a local school. KP Events have sponsored us £100 so we met for a photo to go in the local press. He said there was an entrant from Canada so that must be you! The course is great - I've covered most of it on various training runs. A tricky incline around the 1.5 mile mark but fairly flat thereafter & a lovely spot to finish behind Lichfield cathedral. Hope you have a great run.
Regards, Helen
PS To Buggerlugs. Parking is fairly limited at King Edwards & a real bottleneck to get out. You might want to think about parking in local streets a little distance away - Cherry Orchard is a good option & a short walk to KEs. Type in Cherry Orchard, Lichfield on Google maps.
Thanks for the information Helen. I am heading to Birmingham next weekend to visit with my daughter and am really looking forward to the nice weather you are having. Not quite as nice in my part of Canada yet.
is anyone able to show the route on google maps? i tried to use the map on the KP web site and run the course on Sunday but i got madly lost.
it made for an interesting run though - the highlight being running alongside a man on a sit on mower trying to get his attention so i could ask the way to Fradley!! on reflection, i should of just asked for the mower!!
I made it to the train lines and then went straight on towards the canal under the A38 but im guessing i should of turned left staright after the railway line?
Any help would be much appreciated. i need to do a full and detailed evaluation of the route for the brother in law as we are both down for this!
When you cross the train line you turn right before the Fradley Arms pub and go over the flyover, then through the village to just before Fradley junction, then head towards the industrial estate before heading back to Lichfield
Number has come today Just noticed the number on the chip (attached to the back of the number) is different to my running number. Is that the same with everyone else's?
Also, any idea how many people are running this event? I've done Lichfield 10k several times (which starts from King Eddy's) and I believe that has under a 1000 runners. Parking can be quite tight for that, yet this run is advertising 2500 runners? Logistics could be interesting ... especially as parking on local roads is not encouraged! Time will tell!
Can someone please confirm that I can pick up my run package at the Leisure Centre on race morning. I will be arriving on the 9:10 bus from Birmingham. Thank you.

Hi All

Hi All,
I'm in as well. It's gonna be my tune-up race for Edinburgh Marathon (22/05)
All, went and 'ran' the route yesterday as part of my long Sunday run, (18 miles in total)...... and had to wait at the train crossing while a train came down the line!
Not going to enter now after experiencing that.
Route nice and flat with a few gentle climbs.
Could be exposed to wind though.

Thanks for the info on the trains Richard.

See you at Uttoxeter Richard?
Good news about the trains then!
Matt Woodman - Well done with your run at Stafford half mate.
Wont be at uttoxeter this year. I think its the County champs again so you've got a good chance of getting Gold!
