Should have taken the suncream! It went up, it went down, it went up, it went down. It was flat around the viewpoint which lasted all of 50 yards!

Loved it came in at a couple of minutes under 2 hours so ecstatically pleased with that given I twisted my ankle 1 1/2 miles in, fell, had to stop and stretch my hams......

If reality matched intention I'd know I was dreaming

What a fantastic race that was! Amazing views, and an absolutely horrific course. What more could you want image

My knee is telling me never to do it again, but I think I'll be entering again next year! Finished in 1:42. Previous half PB (High Wycombe half, so not flat) was 1:34, was very happy.

Oh, and incredibly well organised. Loved it.

Incredible race. Only decided to do it for definite about 6pm the night before and turned up on the day asking to enter instead of my friends girlfriend who was not running - not a problem.

Hilly was a bit of an understatement - it was a lot of fun but incredibly difficult.

Finished in 1:33 - 7th place (I think) which I was more than happy with image Well done to all finishers this was a tough race!

Spartak...... how did you get on with this one??

Monty, mate - It was horrendous and some of the best fun I've ever had.  I was just outside THREE hours after hoping for about 2:40 based on the only two xc HM's I'd done - The Steyning Stinger and The Three Forts.  In my opinion, this was a good deal tougher than those races - the rutted tracks, the heat and the softness of the ground in the gladed areas.  I agree with the poster who said the only flat part was the top of Holmbury (?) hill, except that I don't think the course was up down up down up down - it was more up down up flat up slightly up flat down... !!!

Unjfortunately, I popped my Calf Muscle at 5.5 miles - it had been bothering me on the run up to the race, but had easd off - but on the way up the third main hill it proper popped - not a tear thankfully, but enough to make stumbling uphill uncomfortable after that - I was helped by a runner called San from Portsmouth Joggers who helped me stretch it - she told me she was a sports massage specialist, and that certainly helped me to get around - without her I think I'd still be out there.

But, the injury aside, I have to look at myself - did I do enough Hill Training? - Most definitely not - it is essential for this race, and I really should have trained harder 6 weeks out than I did.  So, I'm going to learn from this and get a little better.  My aim is to do a xc HM in 2:30 before I'm 50 years old, do I have 20 months to do it!!!!

I found this race a cracking challenge. I have ran 4 marathons and one OMM and although this wasnt in that league, it was much harder than all the Half Maras, 10k's & Grim Challenges i have done !

Finished in 2hr 21m which was 23 mins outside my (flat) half mara PB and about 10 mins slower than id hoped.

This was my 6th race in 9 weeks so will have a break till Maidenhead Half on 4th sept !

I did this race this year too. Finished in 2hr18 (my flat half marathon time is about 1:58) and I loved it.

Question for those who competed: there was a photographer there at the end, does anyone know whether  there will be some nice sweaty looking photos available for us?

    Thanks guys -)
