Welcome Debutant - a 3.29 in Amsterdam would do me just fine
Decided to do the Forres 10k today, as a training run. Nice flat course but exposed to the elements. And the wind is getting up! Must resist the temptation to race as I have the Aberdeen 10k next Sunday. I'll be happy with 48 minutes in these conditions.
Alan - had a great run at a very steady pace. Pushed harder than I had intended - difficult not to in a race. Finished in 45:20. Looking forward to Aberdeen next Sunday. Anyone else racing this weekend?
I did my first parkrun this weekend as a fitness test as being doing lots of interval training over last 6 weeks. Bloody hate 5k usually but training obv working as felt really strong throughout and even picked up the pace over last 1k. Still wanted to puke at end but so nice to only run for 3miles!
Really impressed with the parkrun set up too. Was a great way to spend a Saturday morning rather than my usual lonely track session!
morning all, booked Amsterdam yesterday and noticed a few of you sound as if you've done it a few times? Any tips/recommendations for hotels? book asap I assume is one tip.
Never even been to Netherlands let alone run there suthers but when I was looking for hotels a month or more back there did seem a shortage of single rooms but plenty of double/twins.
cheers DLR, am planning on making a weekend of it with Mrs.S. - she'll be shopping not running though. Looking forward to a flat run and hopefully a pb. I did Paris last yr in 4:17, so hoping to crack 4hrs ! Will check out Expedia this week and see what occurs.
Hey and welcome! I put some links up on some previous pages. If you give me an idea of price/ 'wishes' (area etc) I can do some more digging. Then we need to think about post race party!
hi suthers, as well as checking the usual hotel booking websites, try airb&b for renting an apartment / flat. works out about the same price and gives you more choice.
Hi guys, thanks for the welcome. Prices on Expedia are going thru the roof ! I can fly from Southampton which is handy, and I think I will def look at renting an apartment as I may be able to russle up another runner to go too. starting to look forward to this now and the post race p***-up !
Ah, goodthought about Air B&B - a ton of people from my running crew are flying in for the weekend (though most are doing the half) so we really want to either bulk-book, or get a bunch of flats nearby and share the cost...
KO and I are over on to the east of the main centre...forget the area but seems to be a few places in that way. It's close to the metro to get to the start.
5 sets of volleyball last night. Legs like lead today. Probably not the the best preparation for Sunday's 10K in Aberdeen. 3 days rest and relaxation are now called for! And a bucket of ibuprofen.
when are we all starting training proper for this marathon ? i have been looking at the calendar today, and taking into account a two week holiday in august as down weeks, i need to start 1st June or therabouts ! !
Technically I am on my last week of vlm recovery and will be starting my first, extended, mesocycle once that is done... Laying solid foundations is the idea.
I'm doing a self designed and fairly loose ramp up plan ahead of proper 18 week training starting on 18th June. Hopefully will do 41- 43 miles this week - just looking to get a mileage base and long runs of 15/16 miles.
18 June for me too - P&D '18 Weeks, Up to 55 miles per week'. I've never done anywhere close to 55 miles in a week, so the next 4 weeks I will be ramping up the miles. Need to get the 10K on Sunday out of the way first though! Now where are those white smartie things?

How did you get on today simon?

congrats simon and johnas.
Next race for me is in nearly 4 weeks - trail/fell relay.
I don't think I'll be able to read much into the fell race but I've a half darn sarf in mid August and that's where i'll benchmark from.
Burnham Beeches ?
Yup, i'm doing it too. Will be much slower than DLR though!
