I've noticed that my timing varies wht the three parameters: booze, snooze and shoes.
booze: too much of it the previous evening can hurt timing. a mild tipple may help u to relax just enough to get a good rest before your run.
theres nothing better than a good nignt's shut-eye. on nights when my sleep is not ok, my timing goes flat.
shoes: keep 2 pairs of running shoes. i've noticed that changing from one to the other (doesn't matter which) helps to improve timing.
PS i'm 50 yrs old from india, running 10k 2 times a week for the past 13 years.

In response I don't drink much alcohol so doesn't affect my running times.
Sleep-I get plenty of that!
Shoes-I too alternate several pairs of trainers, but not because it helps my run times (unless wearing racers in a race) but because it helps prevent injuries.
Here's to another 13 years of running for you:o)
