i'm struggling right now and i only plod at 12 min miles so will take me a good 4 hrs - don't want to be running alone and lose even more mental strength
Denny - I am confident that you won't be the last! I found it really tough going last year as had really bad tummy cramps - hoping this won't be the case! Besides you should be training slow on the long runs anyway - I never understood this but I think the reasoning is like this ... long runs build the endurance but if you do them too fast you exhaust yourself and increase the risk of injury. SO the benefit of running long distance all at MP is outweighed by injury risk and exhaustion. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!
I've no race pack - should I be worried? Will check my email in case we have to pick them up on the day!
I have target times first 7 @ 10:30, 7 @ 10:10 and last 6 @' 9:45 - Sound like anyones times?
There will be plenty of people around on Lap 1 Denny and as the others have said you won't be last so I'm sure you'll have people in sight to focus on / run with for the 2nd Lap as well.
The ETL team have just been having a well earned break but are now back in the country so I'm sure are probably knee deep in putting numbers into envelopes as we speak!
Apologies for the lack of contact, wifi in NZ is sporadic at best.
We've just got back to blighty after a three week break. I'll be processing all of the Spitfire stuff today. You'll receive an email later with details about picking up race numbers etc.
It's not an exaggeration to say I have a pile of mail two feet high and 100 plus email messages (left after the junk was weeded out) so it may take a bit of time.
10mm for me too. The confirmation email received on signing up mentioned that numbers will not be posted and to wait for an email. I've heard great things about the organisation of this one, looking forward to it
You need to make this a more positive experience Denny, not sure what will work for you though. Could you see it as part of the preparation that you need to complete, and so it'll be positive when it's done? If you're running this at lsr pace, then if nothing else, you'll know you can run for the same amount of time (more or less) as you will on marathon day
i'm going to find my pma this week - not had a good long run for a couple of weeks which means i'm due a good run this weekend! think i'll put a big slice of cake in the car to look forward to at the finish i know i can physically do it as i did 16 last weekend - it's now the mental strength which i know is half the battle - thank you so much for all your kind words
I did 17 last Saturday and just about survived. I am doing the 20 miler on Sunday. I am planning on going at least 10m30s miles and hoping not to grind to a halt. My longest runs to date have been one 15 miler ages ago and then the 17 miler at the weekend.
It's going to feel like a long way but I will try and go mile by mile.
i can't sustain 10m30s miles for long and don't want to run out of energy - i think it will take me 4hrs if i'm lucky but i'm going to enjoy it and think of all the calories i'm burning
My husband did the 10 mile Tempest last autumn. It was very well organised and there's a great medal. All the best to you all - I had planned to do it this spring (the 10 mile option) but have been injured, had an operation and now have a bad cough! I'll be lucky to get back to running 5 miles by the time of the National Lottery Olympic Park run at the end of March. But I might do it in the autumn if it's happening again.
No autumn spitfire this year I'm afraid. Dunsfold aerodrome charge an extraordinary amount of money for the use and we've lost money on the event the last couple of years so we''ve canned it.

HC
I'm signed up for this one
hopefully I'll be doing about 10 minute miles, which I call slow
i have to be honest i'm not - i'm seeing this as the biggest hurdle in my training and a bit worried about getting round
Awww Denny just talk it a mile at a time, you'll be fine.
Post waded through, finally. E-mails will go out sometime tomorrow morning. I'm off to bed now
Race day instructions now on the website. Linky wotsit
16 last week? Well in that case it'll be a doddle
Esp when cake is the motivation
It's going to feel like a long way but I will try and go mile by mile.
Crumbs Denny, at that pace you'll be fine
