Cross Training alternatives

Training for third marathon in a year (Berlin in 5 weeks) and have had probs for few weeks now with inflamation between muscle and bone in lower part of right leg. Training fine until now but after last weeks 42 miles and aggravating on the Eliptical Cross Trainer last weekend I've really reached the stage that I need to rest it. Problem is, ECT aggravates it and on a bike I struggle to get my HR beyond 120 (plus I think it might aggravate it). Swimming is OK but again doesnt really push the HR up (I can only do breaststroke). Have read somewhere about weight training for x-training but surely If I do this for seven days or so I'll lose some valuable fitness?
