I have a question for you all.....
When running does it make a difference how deep you breathe?
I have noticed that I breathe quite shallowly when running at a slow pace (base training). I would like to know whether it makes a difference to your HR if you make a point of breathing more deeply. It would make sense that if you get more oxygen into your lungs with each breath your heart would have to work less hard (fewer beats) to get the required amount of oxygen to your muscles????
What do you reckon?

At a lower pace I try to relax and breathe as you quite shallow, in a race I occasionly do very deep breath in order to get back into the pattern again.
Occasionly I get a stitch then I breathe deep when my left foot lands.
I know that people do this in other sports, not sure how it is called "hyper ventilation" (?). For example, sprinters do that before the start.
You can lower HR by controlling your arm movement and posture.
