Blackpool Marathon

  • Good effort JB. And I thought my 2:28 for 20 was going some! That run ended my 50 mile week. And like you, let the "taper" commence! Starting with track tonight....image

  • Not long to go,Did Stafford half in just under 1.25 with no rest,so sub 3 hours is still on,

Have booked up at the Footballs Hotel,Does anyone know if they have got a pasta party the night before ?

  • Hi if anyone is unable to run the full marathon I am am looking for a number. I would inform the race organisers about any changes. I would pay in full for the number. Many thanks Chris.

  • 2 weeks to go,can anybody tell me how close is the hotel Sandford boulevard is from the start/finishing line is as that's where i am staying cheers.
  • I've got a marathon place available if still interested.
  • Hi oliver can you ring me up on 07799557629 Thanks Chris

lol OR - I live at the edge of the Snowdonia National park and the slight drag from Anchorsholme Park to Norbreck/Red Bank Road felt harder nearer the end than running up the Llanberis Pass in the Snowdonia marathon!!

  • Have to agree John it's not a hill as such but when your pushing for a time and it's the last few miles it feels like a mountain.

  • Yes I agree with the fact that a small incline can feel like a hill towards the end of the marathon. I'll have to analyse the said hill and compare it with inclines I know! I personally like a bit of hill in a race, wakes up the muscles and lungs a bit, and I find it kicks you on a bit during the flats.

We'll have to work as a team if theres a wind!

  • So erm they say you have to pay to park but dont say how much. Anyone know what Blackpool FC charge so i actually have the right cash on me on the day please?

I am not sure it is a Blackpool FC car park, which is just as well because the Blackpool FC chairman would want to fleece the fans even more!! I have a feeling it is a (very) large council owned car park, which is literally at the end of the M55

  • Says on the runners info here parking is at blackpool fc 5000 spaces pay and display

although googling car parks in blackpool there are also a range of council ones int he same spot which would be £7.50 as 3 hours isn't quite long enoughimage

  • Eric B I,m staying in football hotel too....may have to start our own pasta party, and I'm hoping for a porridge party for breakfast
  • If anyone needs a place I have had to pull out due to injury my email is let me know thanks.

  • Sorry to here that clee runner.

getting a little worried myself. after a good half marathon result couple of Sundays ago I took a easy low mileage week with 2 X 6 mile tempo runs with the plan to parkrun and carry on taper training. unfortunately the weather and the Cold/bad cough has stopped me training for the last 5 days. it is clearing but can I really afford another week of no training and expect to run 26.2miles in under 3

Hours? legs will be fresh but how much fitness will I ha have lost?

I am staying in the travelodge across the road from the stadium and after an hopeful request the chef has agreed to make me some protein pancakes on race day if I provide the protein powder. Result
  • Clee runner I have sent you an email, i will defintley have your place.

  • Nice one, just sent you a reply image)

  • I trust you will both be contacting the organisers to see if they will accept a number transfer..............

All very well swapping numbers but the organisers need to know exactly who is out on the course.

And if numbers are swapped between different genders you will screw up the results.

  • how did everyone get on?

was my first marathon so very pleased to have sneaked in just under the 4 hr mark (3hr 58).

  • My first as well landed with my time 4hrs 21minsimage brill day well run event but they should give you a tee-shirt as well as your medal........
  • Three hours and two mins chip time, was on for sub three but life became hard after around nineteen Enjoyed it after the race walking up the course cheering everyone
  • Despite perfect conditions I didn't get another sub 3:30 but managed 3:35 nice medal image

  • eric bozlem i think i remember you...i came in at 2:59. you may of seen me collapsed on the floor just past the finish line lol

As a lifelong Blackpool FC fan I took away some great memories from the day, notably finishing in the stadium, where I have spent many an hour cheering on my family's team, with my brother and his family shouting encouragement as I was almost outsprinted on the line.

Like Blackpool, the marathon, in my opinion, is cheap and cheerful and you know what you are going to get. Thankfully the weather gods took pity on us and conditions, I would say, were ideal.

I went for it big time on the day as I tried to stay in sight of the leader, but, despite easing back a little at about mile 11 when it was clear that he was pulling away, I struggled in the last 7miles or so and it was a real battle (physically and mentally). Still, pleased to go sub 2h50m for the 1st time
