Whatever his politics I don't think Mr Di Canio's twattishness has ever been under any doubt.

    Found it!

Did I ever mention the Greek god Priapus? Maybe that is what it was all about? Bad form to mention Greek gods on an atheist thread?

I too can post abstruse commentsimage

Given that fascists believe in authoritarian, if not totalitarian rule in a single party state where the rights and freedoms of individuals are negligible compared to the overriding needs of the state, whether or not he is a racist is a bit of a moot point in my book.

Being a card-carrying fascist means you are a twat, full stop.

But not something that should debar you from managing a football club.

I think it is possible to be fascist but not racist - I haven't heard any evidence that PDC is a racist - whether he is actually a fascist I doubt, probably just has some sympathy for some of their ideals.

I don't think it's possible to separate these.

There is really no excuse or explanation, if indeed he has some sympathy with some of the ideas he is an obnoxious person, or just desperately stupid.

I really don't give a flying about the football clubs, but I was shocked to learn about an appointment of someone with such views to a job with that level of public exposure.

Well done to David Milliband for taking the stand

I'd be surprised if he knew that much about fascism. He identified with the Lazio ultras, who esposed fascism as opposed to the lefties at rival team Roma. Lazio was the team he supported as well as playing for. A bit like Gazza pretending to play the flute when playing for Rangers. He probably knew more about it than gazza knew about sectatrianism and irish politics but that's not hard is it? They are footbal players FFS. Whoever thought trhat football players should be role models needs their head examining. Utra selfish and stupid, generally. I may be worng - i havent read into it,  but give PDC a quiz about Mussolinin etc and i bet it wouldnt be impressive. Im sure there are plenty of quiet BNPers in football

Anything to keep the mackems down is OK in my book, but then I may have to declare a black and white interest. Sorry about the typos above - too late to edit!

I've often wondered why it is beyond the pale to be extreme right but not so to be extreme left. Would he have got the same reaction if he was in the SWP?

Not defending either, just asking ...

    Facists, Racists, etc etc.

Sounds like mostly the same old bulls*** to me.

Di Canio has announced his transfer targets already, John Terry, Suarez and Hitler.

Mutts, did you ever see the Alan Bleasale series GBH? There was a line it it that said, "the more left wing you go the more right wing you become" the theory was that being at either end of the political spectrum led to intolerance to the extent of allowing no opposition. For instance, anti vivisectionists that attack people or burn down research laboratories are essentially extreme left wingers behaving like extreme right wingers.

Di Canio's latest statement is laughable! If he's 'not political' why does he have 'Dux' a reference to Mussolini, tattooed on his arm? Maybe the arm has a mind of it's own, which would also explain it's fondness for doing Nazi stalutes.

Good point, it's not your politics that define you, it's your level of extremism

I'm pretty left wing, as people might have gathered, but I don't see myself as extreme. I believe in argument, not battering people. I certainly don't see myself as being close to fascists - people mistakenly see this as a circular thing.

Not aimed at you Peter, I just don't see any point in criticising a Nation for history, what happened can't be undone, and what's more important is that people learn from history and improve

Well, I guess there's not room for a full exposition of my views on the history of Britain, but let me moderate them to the extent that anyone who studies our imperial history will find many bloody examples of racism at work. You don't even have to be a 'cringeing PC something or other' to understand that.

You say that but who was worse, Hitler or Stalin? I would always pick Hitler because he was a loon. Stalin simply believed that the end justified the means, without his 5 year plans, would we still have beaten Hitler? But the fact that he deliberately and cynically killed fewer millions than Hitler does not make his doctrine OK.

One of the key differences between the extreme left and the extreme right is that the left believe that Socialism/Communism is the final step in the perfectability of man. I beg to differ as the track record is that Socialism leads to single party states and repression/oppression, if not outright murder and genocide.

Is there anyone left in the world who thinks Socialism and freedom of the individual can exist together in a modern state? Generally socialists and fascists share a number of common traits - a key one of which is... You must obey. We know what's good for you, shut your gob unless you want to get hurt.

And no, Sweden isn't a socialist country...
