Having declared no IM in 2014 but hilly sportives and runs in preparation for IM Austria for 2015, I've noticed it's smack in the middle of term time so am looking at alternatives ...
... and thinking maybe I would like to at least consider a 2014 IM, OH permitting ...
So, what are your thoughts about either Switzerland, Sweden or Denmark? I'd like a bit more of a challenge than Outlaw ... what's the best next step up ???
Comments
IM Switzerland was great fun. Pretty, some good climbs and fun descents and generally well organised.
Would recommend it.
Can we ask them to move the date of IM Nice back by a week, to clear the exam zone?
Have you looked at the rat race. City to summit. Think its iron distance edinburgh to ben nevis. sounds like a step up.
IM UK is the first weekend in August this year and IM Wales is first w/e in sept...Any good?
Not sure OH would be so excited about a trip away to Bolton ... Not ready for IM Wales
anyone done Copenhagen? It's an IM now ... Thinking Sweden might be flatter than Outlaw?
Need to start saving ...
Brit IM Wales is tough but deffo doable and a fantastic event
Well organised and easy to get to.
There's also the nicest yha you ever saw about 5 mins walk from the start.
yep - the Swiss YHA was very nice ... I'm doing the camp site this year
Is Switzerland a sell-out-before-you-can-hit-'SEND' event?
16 hour cut off ... so is Copenhagen ...
decisions ... aaahh
IM Switzerland is does not sell out so quickly these days, there were still places for 2013 a few months ago I think?
I dont get the concern over 16 hour cut-offs, especially when its not the first event, you have a base and first race experience thats the hard work done. There's no reason you shouldnt be able to knock a couple of hours from your Outlaw time if you continue training with the same focus/intensity over a 6 month build up?
I think you're right, Barley - plus that hour would add another challenge into the mix for me (might start with hard core puncture repair interval training!)
Switzerland seems to be getting more votes. Gone off Sweden - my son might prefer the promise of a trip to the theme park at Copenhagen though ...
... maybe I'll see where the family would prefer to go ...
britrisky......I did switzerland for my first ..you wouldfn't have any problems with the 16 hours honest
I'd like to do Sweden one day though - but I think its fairly pricey up there ?
The only reason my son wants me to do Sweden is that his name is Swedish (Anders - long story) and he's desperate to meet other people with the same name as him!!
I think I'd need more reasons than that to go there - I've been to Sweden and loved the country, but it was expensive, and Switzerland or Copenhagen does have more appeal - has no one done Copenhagen to even up the competition?
Brit, based on the number of tyre issues you had at Outlaw, if you didn't have the same issues again, you could probably knock at least 30 mins off your time right there!!!
Not sure about the IM, but someone was considering the Copenhagen marathon this year but thought the accomodation etc. was going to be too expensive. Depends how you do it of course.
