  • There is a huge campsite at HPP. Right across the road from transition.

  • the outlaw people gave a link to it on their email this week......

  • I am wimpy and need the comfort of more than a roll-mat and canvas lining for a good night's sleep pre and post 140.6 so, when I took part in Outlaw in 2011, I opted to stay at Swans hotel which is incredibly close to start.  I think a dozen other Pirates appeared at the same venue.  It was relatively cheap but good accommodation and they were aware of the event and had staff up serving breakfast very early.

We drove to start on race day and there was no issue with traffic / parking.

  • Budjuice, if your intention is to camp, you'd be mad not to use the one across the road.  The shower block is a bit overwhelmed by it being full for a couple of nights but it's not insurmountable to work round that and it's very quiet the night before the race because the whole place has to be up so early the following morning.  On race day, there are showers at HPP itself, as well as on camp, they are at the top of the horrid steps.

Also, we have managed to cordon off a little Pirate Central at HPP campsite every year since the race started!

Swans is nice too, a number of forumites have stayed there before, as Robbie says.

A number of us have also stayed at the Holiday Inn (the one in Castle Marina Retail Park, not the central Holiday Inn Express), it's nice and quiet, has a car park and is opposite Sainsburys so it's very handy for that.  There is a Premier Inn next door if you want to compare prices.

  • cheers for the info guys.

I take it that this will be the intention this year too Mouse?  Looks like I'll be booking here then.  I just need to sort myself out a tent now. image

  • Pudge - fairly sure that will happen again this year - usual spot.image

The camp site is fine - except last year there were some idiots running around the night before with helium balloons .... image

  • Pudge - agree with Raf.  There's always a big pirate contingent.  I'd be stunned if there wasn't a pirate central. (Though before Seren posts, she won't be in it, she'll be over the other side in the electric hookup section!)

Raf - I can still see it.

  • Excellent - I shall be there then....although anyone making any noise past 9pm will be the target of a short, sharp "shhhhhhhh" from me!

+1 for the Holiday Inn. We've stayed there when doing the Outlaw Half and the Nottingham Triathlon. I'd not have an evening meal in the hotel though as I found it a bit expensive for what you get. They also put on a room where people could store their bikes overnight which was useful.

  • As Mouse mentioned i will be in the posh part having a quiet time..........image

but all are welcome to partake in the amenities of my tentimage

What 'amenities' might be available in your tent? image

  • Budjude, as others have said the campsite over the road is def the easiest option.

Has the Pirate feed station been mentioned anywhere yet?

you can first go image....although at one satge I think i managed 4 or 5

  • Hi Guys, anyone got the name or link for that main camp site? I'm doing the half and looking for somewhere cheap and convenient for the night before...

  • I'm amazed no-one has mentioned the best bit of camping there. After the race if you are knackered just fancy the bar and don't want to drive home you can just get drunk and fall asleep. image

  • First thing on my phone calendar this year was to book the HPP campsite - which I've done
  • Are we nearly there yet?

  • Thanks Rafifki.  Just noticed my brother only lives 18 miles away, so trying to book room on a floor!  6:20 start though ... bit uncivilised!

  • Is it safe to assume that the camping will be free for those who are doing the feedstation this year?

  • I think it depends how organised OSB are - it was last year, but not the year before.

  • Roger that, might just book it then to be safe.....can we have more helium this year please.

  • I never leave home without it image

  • Can we have cake as well .... of the iced variety

Only they ran out of beer by 3pm last year!  image  And I heard a rumour that those who 'disgraced' themselves last year by being 'inappropriately dressed' whilst on duty would have to pay!!  image

  • Do you want me to ask if they do an OAP discount Siggy?

  • What, a discount on 'free'?!! image image  Keep paying the pension  Foo, keep paying the pension!  image

  • Can this year be thong free please ....
  • Spoilsport. Everyone likes a good thing thong.
