My 12 year old son is looking for a new watch. He has just started running and has completed his first 5km race a few weeks ago.
He is wanting a new watch for running and wants to spend around £20. Is there anything decent in that price range. He would like it to have lap times aswell.

for £20 you won't be getting anything fancy with heart rate or GPS features. You'll need to look at basic digital watches with timers.
If you have a look on amazon, there are a few timex ironman watches for just over £20 that can record laps. No experience of them myself, but I've noticed a few triathlete friends who wear them.
The other option if they have an ipod touch or iphone would be the Nike+ sensor that fits in the shoe and communicates with the device for recording distance covered etc. The sensor is cheap, but it assumes you are happy for your son to carry an expensive device in his pocket! The iDevice's built-in clock can also work as a stopwatch with laps
Was going to recommend the Timex Ironman 8 lap.
But it is about £40. Probably £20 when I first got it. Sorry !.

I've got one of these; it's £25 and has a lap counter, countdown timer and interval (8x) function. The only thing it won't do is timed intervals of different lengths (or under a minute, I think), so might be slightly irritating if he wants to do anything short not on a track, but otherwise it's good and cheap. Also it is a unisex model so will fit even if he has small wrists. Most of the ones with good functionality are designed for men with bigger wrists.

£19.99 postage, otherwise a nice looking watch
OK

A few seconds on Amazon gets numerous watches around the £20 mark which have lap counters.

I've got the women's version of this, and it's pretty good.
Has anyone used the wahoo blue? Pairs with your iphone/android etc? Is it any good? Seems to offer a good balance of features for the price. (well if you buy one on ebay anyway!)
