We've gotta have some distraction from our under-training Flyaway but thanks for mentioning that, it has provided some comfort. Although I imagine the thresholds are there for a reason and 24.4C+ must be a bit of boil in the bag experience?
Does this mean the famous non-wettie swim in Austria a few year back meant the water was nearly 29C? Yikes.
Having checked the situation regarding wetties a little closer...
The new standardised IM rules ban wetsuits when water temps are above 24.55C.
Unless you're racing in the US where they don't like the idea of having the same standards as the rest of the World! Only for races in the USA will the discretionary limit of 28.8C apply.
We can't un-use all the CFC containing deodorants from the 90s so there's nowt we can do about the lake temperature but I thought I'd clarify.
Thanks for the responses guys, and thanks for encouraging my laziness ISB - I could/should have checked out public transport myself!
Robbie - thanks very much for the offer of a lift, that's really kind of you. Maybe we can meet up in Velden at some point before the race? That way I won't have to put up with, "But muuuuuuuuuum, you said we've never to get in a car with a stranger"!
Hear, hear Flyaway - there's sod all we can do about the water temp. Just swim.
It's all coming together beautifully. I'm starting to get quite excited. One more longish bike tomorrow* and then it's downhill all the way. I am making some piratey jewellery to keep myself out of mischief for the next two weeks
*should have been today, but my plans were scuppered by a rather ill wee boy needing a day off school. I think I'm going to stop planning and just wing it in future.
Ah Will - until we did Germany - there had NEVER been a non wetsuit swim in the whole of Europe Ironman races. I think we all thought that they would fiddle the temp to make it legal.
The glee they had when they announced the wetsuit ban though - the lil tinkers !!
... and to add It is increasingly likely that European IM's can be non wetsuit so you really need to factor that in to your thought process, hard to factor it in to training in this country!
I swam yesterday, well, splashed about and got from one end of the pool to the other without drowning, and back again. This is now 2 swims since July, there is every chance I will arrive over-trained
I'm flying into Ljubljana on the morning of Thursday 25th, then hiring a car to drive to Klagenfurt. If anyone else is flying into Ljubljana on Thursday morning, and doesn't have a transfer arranged, I'm happy to offer a lift.
I very nearly chose to go non wetsuit in Austria last year. I didn't have a particularly good swim and in retrospect wonder if it was cos I was overheating. If it's as warm this year, I may well go without cos I reckon any time I lose actually swimming will be made up for by time saved in transition
Hi guys I'm dong Austria had issues with TT (arms ache even after fit) is it worth percerving and get it to fit/new arm pads or just go with the roadie with bars ?

Anyhooo - here's a nice webcam of the lake - how lovely does it look ?

Bonus of a non-wetsuit swim, were that to actually happen, is a bit of time saved in T1, surely a good thing?
Cougie - it looks gorgeous! getting excited now

Dont think Austria has ever been Non-wetty
In summary...
American outfit standardise rules.
American outfit realises their American consumers don't like being standardised.
American outfit changes standardised rules so they are no longer standardised but still calls them 'standardized rules'.
I'm quite sad that i am no longer doing this
NR - pirate jewellery! I like the sound of that
I need to hunt for my head torch because I'll be running in the dark, I already trip up in daylight so god knows how I'll manage in the dark!
The glee they had when they announced the wetsuit ban though - the lil tinkers !!
I thought 2012 was a non-wetsuit swim in Austria?
"Hello , I'd like to buy some deodorant please?"
"Ball or aerosol?"
"Neither, I want it for my armpits!"
I am sure Austria has had a non-wettie I know I have had 3 non wettie swims... Frankfurt twice and Zurich...
As has been said just get on with it... we are all in the same boat (well lake actually) when it comes down to it...
Just think of the extra bragging rights
Austria has been non wettie I am sure
Have just done a swim in Box End which was a tad chilly and I didnt die
... and to add

Thats useful info, thanks. Just begs the obvious question:
If I fall asleep on the 23:46 where do I end up
yep - 2012 non wetty
Barlos ..... Deep Trouble
WIll, we will be sad not to see you as well
Of course, Barlos, that's assuming you'll finish in time to catch the 23:46

At this time ... I'd go with the road bike
Bike today was bloody brilliant. Everything went to plan, no glitches and, more importantly, no hip pain. None. Yeeeeeeeeha .
Who's heard from Nirvana with a date for bike pick-up?
Weekend of 19th to 21st in the email I got from them
