I can't make this now so have a race place available. If anyone would like it, please mail me and we can sort it out. I think we have until the end of the month to do it.
Hi Seren, I'm running this for the first time this year. I take it you've run it before? Do you know how much ascent there is (can't seem to find it online...or maybe just not looking hard enough!). Anything we should be aware of as first timers - thanks!
there are only the 3 climbs which you do twice each........the first one is the hardest and is a long climb from the canal to Tor- y-foel... I walk most of this one....when you get back off that mountain you end ip down on the taff trail....thats is the second climb but its a gradual long one on good surface.....I run most of that one with walk breaks.....
the third one not long after that is the climb up to the gap on the old roman road.....this is not as steep as tor-y-foel but does go on and had a more rugged running surface.( and on the way down the other side).....I run/ wlak this one...... after the gap it is mainly down or flattish for the rest of the loop....with a few minor undulations..
the second time around the climbs are a bit steeper
I would be prepared for all weathers out there......it can be beautiful sunshine or thick fog or driving rain..
the first time I did it it was dry and lovely the first loop.started the second loop and the rain started.by the time we hit the gap road it was getting dark and the rain was torrential and the wind had picked up to a gale.....
It was long way down the otherside to the checkpoint and i wasn't dressed appropriately and nearly had hypothermia...lesson learnt and never got in that state again since...
one year it was very foggy and we needed to take the headtorches off our heads and hold them down near the floor to see as the beams just reflected off the fog......that was a slow descent off the gap until we hot lower ground...
it is a great race and I am looking forward to it as i haven'y done it or any ultras for the last 3 years
Right.this is actually getting close and I need to get my mind in focus ... so let the carbo loading begin.....
yesterdays horrendous weather in south wales has been replaced by a lovely day today.....fingers crossed for tomorrow.but there will be loads of mud and surface water out on the course....
Absolutely loved it, brilliant race, wanted to shoot myself going up Tor y Foel the second time to put myself out my misery, but the pain is already a distant memory and will definitely be back next year.
top report Barbie, nice cloud inversion on the first Tor y Foel climb I was up in the west side of the Brecons on Saturday and it was very different, especially up on the peaks!
Hi all, what a great race at the weekend. First time in the Brecon Beacons and what perfect weather. Made a film about it if you are interested in doing the race next year. It will give you an idea of what to expect. http://youtu.be/oMYZkpqrMPQ

The weather is looking surprisingly decent for tomorrow (considering all the rain there's been recently) but definitely expecting it to be a mud fest.
