Hi Wenterrapin - I have tried marathons the last 2 years and each time when I am training for them I get faster on my short races, then after the marathon it all goes to pot and I can't get anywhere near that pace again for the rest of the year! I am not sure if it is due to not recovering properly or putting all my effort into the marathon training and then becoming lazy after... I am hoping by following a proper plan this time it will be easier to keep up the training afterwards....and yes joining in here hopefully I will be embarrassed into sticking to it too! image

Wow, more fresh blood! Andrew G - PM me your email and I can send you and excel spreadsheet of the plan to keep you going - same applies to all other peeps who want a spreadsheet version.

Tiny - that's a great post xmas run. Congrats - I am a country mile away from any PBs at the moment.

Expat - whats your current weekly mileage?

Uneventful 12 for me yesterday at 7.45 pace - felt nice n smooth. recovery for me today - it looks lovely out there.

ah bollox - that didn't work. Had to go back to November to find this and bugger it up.(Not literally - I don't have a time machine)The format police are gonna be along shortly to chastise me no doubt.

Can one of you youngsters sort it out for me? And can the newbies fill in their bits? Also can the sandbaggers put in their real A race targets. You (and we) know who you are.......

    Cheers

    Welcome Andrew and expat image

Quite a dangerous run that sounds NE, well paced run though

Nice shiny new pb there tiny runner image

Good running from plenty of others as well, seems we have all been fairly disciplined despite the festivities!

As 'one of the youngster's/the youngster 's the thread I would offer to sort it out Mennania but doubt I would be of much use

I'm not going to follow the up to 70 plan religiously I'll be knocking a mile or two off on the longer MLRs and I probably won't do the doubles.  I will be getting out later for a run of some description later, once the other half comes back from work.

I am running great welsh in april and aiming for sub 3, hope there is room on this thread for me?

@runner jonnie...  what do you know about the Great Welsh?  I'm planning to do Manchester (the same day)... but I have an eye on the Great Welsh... not least because I live in South East Wales.

I want a PB and  I think both are flat.

The Great Welsh has the advantage of being in Wales... and not TOO far from home.  It's 2 laps - which, from a family spectator point of view, I like.

Manchester - claims to be the flattest marathon in Britain.  I think the crowd support is better. Can tie it in with a trip to family.

    Any thoughts?

    Welcome to those joining.

Well done Tiny Runner, great time.

3 miles completed for me today. only third run in over a month but I'm hoping it's the end of injuries and the beginning of training proper. I shall see how I feel in morning but at the moment I've got everything crossed.

Careful out there as its very icy.

I decided to get my 9 miles with 4 @ LT out of the way, it was a lot better than the same session two weeks ago.

    Splits 7:39, 7:42, 7:44, 7:52

I'm glad that one is out of the way!

Welcome to all the new posters!image

Just got back from a very chilly 6 miles with 3 at HMP. Better than last week but still had to battle a headwind in last mile. Target pace was 8:24 and splits came out at 8:16, 8:18 and 8:22. I'm a bit confused about the pace I'm supposed to be doing these at. I've worked out an arbitrary half marathon pace (based on a 1hr 50 mins time) but should be they be closer to 10k pace?

My actual 10k PB pace is 7:55 and my actual HMP PB pace is 8:45 (set 2 years ago!).

The joys of visiting relatives means new bugs! So now have a productive cough that even makes me out of breath walking round house in the morning for the last couple of days. Being sensible and not running in cold air - when I get a chest infection they usually hit hard.

I had a pretty good park run on Saturday, with my brother-in-law and niece. Ran slow with BIL (he's only 5 weeks out from having his arm chopped off) for the 2 miles then hit a nice 8:40 for last mile, which is target HMP (acp - I have all mine worked out through McMillan, they're slowly getting to be obtainable). Niece got 25min for her first ever timed 5k run. I hate her image

Nice running acp - hope your weather is as sunny as here!

Wenty - I quite like typing my plan out, means I get to think about what I have to do!

Arent relatives just lovely for passing on bugs! Hope it clears up soon Rachel, good running from you and your family too

Good running acp, hit those paces well hard to say what your hmp is if you haven't ran a recent one

A very cold 8 miles this morning, got back and my brain felt like it was frozen

Hello. 14mi this morning. Daughter has picked up a stomach bug, lots of puking yesterday, some of it over me, recovering today. We fly home tomorrow.

Wenty - I'll probably update that 2.59, I originally put that when still recovering from injury and was not sure how much training I'd be able to do. Now feeling a bit more confident and am in fact thinking of doing the 12 week 70-85 plan now but with Sunday's off and no doubles (so more like 65-78).

Morning all, ran a nice chilly 8m at about 9 min mile pace, no strides as doing 10k race on Thursday so will count that as speed work...hopefully that's ok...leaves me short on miles that day too...tweaking plan already, the OCD in me is not happy! ????
