Hi Guys , im looking forward to my 1st comrades, 3 weeks to go cant wait !!!
I told my doctor im going to Durban to do this race , and he told me I need Malaria tablets as a lot of English people can pick it up, I've got the prescription but am worried about side effects etc, this is my one and only chance at doing it, so I don't want to be sick on these tablets. Are there any English " white " previous comrades runners that can advise me please.
I think what he meant was that as I've never been out of Europe and im not a seasoned traveller I should take it.
thanks P

Never heard of needing malaria tablets for Comrades.
I ran it twice (up and down) and didn't take them so probably best to get a second opinion.

The vast majority of SA needs no malaria tablets - are you going on safari after or anything ? Check out the map.
no safari, just comrades, the map said no tablets needed I will go with that , ta p
Beat me to it cougie.
Phil, there is a Comrades 2015 thread on here, you should join it!
Malaria has a two week incubation period, so chances are you'll be back in the UK before the symptoms start - where you will have access to good quality, free medical treatment. Malaria is fairly easy to treat these days.
The anti-malarial tablets do not prevent infection, just generally slow the onset on the disease - so I wont bother myself. Best way to avoid malaria is not to get bitten! Cover up at night and use a mossy net.
I lived in a malaria region of Africa for 7 years and never took any. Although I did get malaria twice - surprisingly
thanks guys , in can forget that now !
