A woman is so incensed that Jeffrey Archer is gaining publicity by attempting to beat the P.Diddy record (of raising the most money through a marathon run), that she is trying to outdo him!
Mr Archer will be getting "not a penny more, not a penny less" from me! Zilch to be precise. Boom Boom
However, the good thing is that charities will benefit from his fund-raising and not him. I think he is probably loathed by the majority.
HOWEVER
I am raising money for my own local hospice charity and would suggest this is a worthy cause which you all would feel so good about if you sponsored me.
I don't wish to knock people such as your good self RRR but why ask for donations from people who are most likely raising money for their own good causes or else aren't interested in giving to charity? I guess you're just being thorough.
i will throw in with chimp, on a separate fund raising venture (dont worry, i'll kep public accounts which show no siphoning of funds between the two accounts)
Archer is a convicted fraudster, and much loathed by most of the country. But no one person is all bad, and I think it's good that he is trying to atone for his 'dubious' past. Don't get all moral about who raises the money for charity, let's be grateful Archer is raising so much cash, regardless of his motive.
AC - That's the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me. Thank you :oP
Dodge - I am sure you must be joking because you can't possibly be serious. Are you? Do you have a strong desire to share ALL your views on the forum? If you don't wish to knock me, then why post?
Explain to me how you expect people to raise money. It doesn't just fall in the letterbox without some coaxing and gentle persuasion! Yes, call me an opportunist but the majority of people will understand and you never know I may be lucky with a donation or two. I feel no guilt because it is such a worthy cause.
Try doing some charity work, you may feel good about it too. Miracles do happen!
Well, I ask you, this woman who is 'incensed' about the publicity Archer is getting........how sad is that ? All celebs/politicians etc go out of their way to get publicity. Bottom line is that if Archer wasn't raising all this money, some charity would be going without. He's a loathsome character, but he's done hist time, and now he's doing some good. And that's the main thing isn't it !!!
RRR, my point was that the likelihood is that people on these forums, if they were charity minded, would most likely have their own causes where as people elsewhere would be less likely, especially when the reason for many people taking up running is to participate in events for the sole purpose of doing something for charity. I wasn't suggesting that you didn't post here but I was curious as to how productive it would be and that's why I said I wasn't knocking anyone who did post on here. It's also why I said I'd guess it was that yo were just being thorough, ie covering all available bases.
Sorry you took it so personally and maybe I hadn't explained my question better.
If this woman can use the amount Archer raises to raise even more money, (and possibly Archer finds out and tries to outdo her), then the charity involved wins as I'm sure there are some people who will give a little bit more to help her achieve her aim.
If a good cause gains, there's no harm in it.
I doubt Archer himself will lose any sleep over it.
Er...doesn't Lord Archer have a little bit of a cloud hanging over his involvement with charities in the past?
Not, of course, that I would dream of suggesting that there's reason to believe he was anything other than completely innocent of all accusations!
I rather agree with Dodge, just this once. I'm sure those of us here who contribute to charities make individual and personal decisions about where our donations go.
well he's obviously got assistance from a very good public relations guy, because there's no way he could have thought about this cunning plan to big up his name and lose his bad reputation all by himself.

but it just sounds pointlessly bitter and small minded to be incensed about some **** like archer raising money for charity
